Every server I have ever been on has done regular back-ups for me. I didn't think about it. And clearly neither did anyone else that had access to it. Poor way to learn a lesson. And I don't need a lecture on it like I don't already know what all we lost

There is no problem. The data is not recoverable so it's a moot point, stop talking about it. The data TeamZX2 lost pales in comparison to the amount of data lost from other sites the server housed.

This was probably a shared server, so they cant just mail you the drive.. Shit happens, its up to the site owner to ensure data security. The hosting company just provides the hardware (depending on the SLA)

So what your trying to say is that you weren't really on a server, but more likely a computer at somebody's house hooked up to a high speed line. Because I find it hard to believe that any real server wouldn't be running Raid 1.

Nope I've only worked with smaller raids, 0/1/2. But Raid 1 has the advantage if a drive dies you have everything still, but then again I'm also used to seeing data backed up at a separate location in case of a meltdown.
