Haha, What a bad time to register. I joined (or tried to) the day the server crashed and there were some threads that I was reading and now they are gone :(
Anyway, I just bought a ZX2 like a month ago and I am looking for some answers. First off, I'm looking for some way to tune my car up with out spending too much. I have a 5 spd stock 98 zx2 sport. I've looked around for a turbo online but have had no luck. My next door neighbor is a "car guy" and he sugested that Instead of getting a turbo I swap a v6 into it. He said that just putting a turbo in it would make it run like crap and I would need a chip or something too.

I'm not looking for like a 13 sec car or anything, I'm just looking for a "cool car" for a highschooler.

Thanks for any responses :)

Turbo is the best power maker we have, but it is very involved and expensive.
Expect all sorts of trouble along with the gains.
You can't swap a V6 in our car - forget abut it.
You have mentioned very expensive modifications , yet don't want to spend too much.
I'd take care of the basic maintenance of the car at this point - oil and filter, spark plugs, air filter, PCV valve, check all vacuum lines, brake system, coolant flush.

How about going for looks while you are in high school? Power percieved is power achieved.

Alright, Cool.
I have a pretty steady job and I could aford a grand or so and maybe more later on.
Thanks for the reply. I think I will go for an intake or something first. What is your personal favorite brand or sugestions.

Damn, i so want to say "PUTSB!" or "read the welcome to team zx2 thread", but we can't!

The choice of intake depends on your style/preferance. I have a custom AEM CAI(cold air intake) from a tiburon. I cut the piping to reach the fender well. Many members say for about 10 dollars you can do the keman mod, which is modifing your stock air box by removing the resonators.

just do simple mods first
pots mod
get a udp
buy a programer
get a intake
and exhaust
cut your muffler off
just basics befor a turbo
puttin in a turbo in a non turboed car is alot of work....

go for suspension mods first!!!!!springs, struts, swaybar and some polyurethane bushings! yea turbo in a non turbo car is a lot of work, esp. if its a daily driver and a lot of money, plus these differentials suck ass!

One of my best friends has a tiburon and I've seen the mods to extend it on the zx2.
Dusty, What's the pot's mod and where would be a good place to shop for upd and programer?

Thanks alot guys, its good to talk to people.

Mech is being ignorant, you can most certainly swap a v6 into the car. It's a large project though and you will need a car to drive while the zx2 is down.

If you want I can give you a list of things you'll need.

As for what to do for a cool DD.. just rims, eibach drop, some good tires, 2.5 catback, shorty header, intake, rsb, short shifter.. and you're good. What to do first? Doesn't really matter.

Intakes are cheap, make a cool sound sometimes, not a huge power gainer but you can feel it a bit. Header and exhaust are usually done at the same time but don't need to be.. being in canada I'd go for something stainless steel. As for the rest, wuteva.

If you don't want to deal with the problems assocated with putting a turbo in, then you certainly don't want to deal with putting a V6 in.

Oh, BTW, PUTSB is back in action since most of the 'Welcome' thread is back up.

I am not ignorant when giving advice to a complete newb about putting a V6 in his car.
Way out of his league in price and difficulty.
Not even an option for him.
It's smarter to get a bigger gun to start with, in this case.
We put a man on the moon, so obviously everybody knows that most anything is possible.
I am just mixing this with common sense and a bit of time learned wisdom.

Yes but just because he shouldn't... doesn't mean that it CAN'T be done.

So, something like this http://www.borla.com/applications/lookup.aspx/1998/Ford/Escort/ZX2+Hot+CoupeStainless_Steel_Rear_Section/11734/
would be what I'm looking for? Capital crew mentioned "shorty header" does the link above include headers or should I buy "shorty headers" somewhere else? Is the price good? how long of an install process do you think?

Now off to find an intake. and whats "rsb"
Thanks.

That looks to be just the muffler. You can get them around here for a bit better of a price (check the for sale section). That doesn't include a header. Instal should only be a few hours if it was rusted on, and includes time for a break to stretch.

A RSB is a rear sway bar.
