Tools needed
---------------
Ratchet's.
10mm,14mm,17mm sockets
jack[the one in your trunk works, i used it myself]
breaker/cheater bar helps. Longer the better.
wd40[or any penetrating lube]

The Install Process
------------------

- Grab the 10mm socket and remove the two bolts holding the radiator shroud to the radiator.[ accesible from the top]

- Unplug the fan.

- Climb underneath and remove the splashshield bolts. Once accomplshed, look above you and there is one more bolt holding the shroud on. Take it out.

- While underneath the car, break the two motor mount to crossmember bolts loose[14mm]. Just break em loose for now.

- Place the jack underneath the tranny. Put a piece of wood on top of it. Jack it up just enough to relieve stress off the motor mount bolt.

- Grab the ratchet and put the 17mm socket on it. Go ahead and put it on one side on the motor mount bolt. Grab another socket or a wrench[17mm] and put it on the other side. Otherwise it will just spin when you try to take it off.

- Once you take the bolt out set it aside and remove the two nuts from the crossmember you broke loose earliar.

- Take all the bolts and nuts inside and wirewheel them up. Get all the rust off, and lube them up w/ either axle grease/silicone/anti seize. Hell, anything. Put some in the nuts too. This just makes things easier going back on.

- Grab the ES insert and slide them into the slots in the motor mount.

- Lube up the sides of the ES inserts.

- Fanangle the mount into place. It's alot tighter going in than the stocker so it takes some muscle.

- Take the 14mm again and secure the motor mount onto the crossmember.

- Slide the big motor mount bolt through the mount and start threading the nut on.

- Drop the engine back to its original place.

- Tighten all the bolts up. Nice and snug.

- Drop the shroud back in. Put the three bolts in, tighten them up.

- Re-install the splashshield.

- Enjoy less engine movement. I really felt it when i revved it, and shifted.

Rep points are nice :) Hope this helps. I will snap some photos to help later.

Hey do these ES mounts actually make a difference?
I am just curious because I bought the kit for front and back.

When I got my motor mounts it came with a bigger one and a smaller one. I have the bigger one installed already. Question is, where do the smaller ones get installed into?

the smaller one goes in the rear trans mount.

the smaller one goes in the rear trans mount.

That's what I thought, and I tried that. The thing is the insert isn't fitting into the mount right. I can get it started, but it's not sliding in tight to the mount. Do I have to get it pressed in instead of trying with m hands?

No. You hafta align either side of the 2 inserts for the front and rear perfect for em to slide in. It was a few tries before I got mine in correct. They should go right in. (Some teeth grinding pressure may be involved while using your hands/ they're tight. Try lubing the inside of the stock MM to ease insertion.

Lube to insert FTW!!!

Well the rear trans inserts don't even line up with the mount. I think I was send the wrong inserts. Tell me this, would the front mount be the same as any other model Ford vehicle, but have a different rear trans mount? That's all I can think of since the inserts don't match the mount.

From my best recollection what you have in the pic is identical to the MMs I've used. I cant remember if the 2 that aren't installed are front or rear, but they look waaay familiar. Do you have ATX by chance, because I've only done MTX inserts. Those would be MTX inserts IIRC.

I have a MTX. I'll take another look at them, but something just didn't seem right. The hole in the insert just doesn't line up with the hole in the mount. Just to make sure, this is the correct mount to insert them into.

Um. If I'm not mistaken, that's the top tranny mount. There are 3 trany mounts. Front, rear and top. The rear is a biotch to get to and pull. You hafta remove the cross member and the support that runs front to back (K-member is the only name I know for this) to get it out. You'll need to jack the motor up to get the studs outta the K-member.

Beware! Use alotta loose-juice on the nuts at the rear and bolts on the front of the K-member. Many a ZX2ner has busted a stud (rear) or bolt (front) getting this job done (myself included on 2 ZX2s). Once you get to the correct MM, you'll see how easy the insertion is.

Sorry for the bad news!

After you douche the nuts and bolts on the K-member, use a flat punch or screwdriver and a hammer and tap the bolt heads and stud ends to "rattle" the penetrant into the threads. Heat wouldnt be a bad idea either. Be aware there's rubber dampers between the K'member and chassis. So if they burn, no biggie, you can re-assemble without em, but just be aware if something catches fire if you use a torch.

It's all good now. I have the motor, trans and k-member out of the car. I found the rear trans mount, so everything is under control now. Thanks for all the useful information.
