Blown Diff?

Christ almighty, I hope not. Car wouldn't start, so I replaced the negative battery terminal, yippie, it starts. So, I pull out of my driveway, and there is the craziest sound coming from the front right of my car. My heart sinks. I pull over and turn around. Granted, IT DOES NOT MAKE THIS SOUND ALL THE TIME. ABOUT ONCE EVERY 3 TIRE SPINS.

It sounds bad. I jacked up the car and spun the tire, and it would go around a few times and then stop, and not want to spin unless force was exerted. It sounds really bad, but IDK. I REALLY hope it's not my diff, I don't have the money for that shit right now.

Any ideas?

and the front right of the caris not the tranny side... i would look more towards the cv's highly unlikely u busted the diff by pulling outts your driveway.

Well do you want me to get a decibel reader and do that? It is a clunking sound. I think the most important thing is that the wheel won't turn without being lightly forced.

talking by experience.... i'm on my fourth diff...

to know if it's the diff make some tight turn in a parking lot in a 8 pattern if the car is making a clicking sound like a gear that jumping teeth and the car is jerking when is making the sound (like if you with metal with and hammer and you fell the gear slipping/grinding) . If it's only one clunk only when turning one one side it could be a axle.

yeah, but thats not 100% true... when I blew mine, the car was running fine, except for the fact the shifter didnt want to shift in 2 and 4. lol

Decibels only tell intensity or volume, not the actual sound frequency and characteristics.

At this point I'd drain the tranny and look carefully for metal chunks in the oil.

what do you get mpg wise? I normally get 18-20... last fillup I got 22!!!! woot woot!! but gas just went over the $4 mark for premium (what I use) :(

You don't get 22 mpg highway I hope. I get 33 mpg highway most of the time, sometimes 30 if the wind is against me.
