Yeah I know this is kinda a lame question. But can you change the head of the shifter on an ATX? I know it has the button on the side. Maybe I'll paint it or something. It looks boring.

i have thought of this too. im wondering if you can go to AZ or advance auto and take one of their ATX shift kits and just but the knob. but if you paint it, it may get too hot and get all sticky, which would be worse than black

I did wish i still had pics.
I had one with button on top, then cut shifter down and made it into short shifter.
Autozone FTW.

not much, i took a round one, wrapped shifter in rag and clamped in table vise.
It files like butter.

Here's mine:

It's actually shorter than most. I took off the little triangle piece that is on top of the shifter rod. Took the guts outta my new shifter, slid it down on there and threaded the button onto the shifter rod. It feels a lot more solid and you get a lot better bite with the allen screws.

if you use this shifter knob with a boot that hides the bottom half, it looks like a manuel. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOMO-Automatic-Black-Leather-Shift-Knob-FREE-SHIPPING_W0QQitemZ320332195563QQcmdZViewItem
