I currently have the eibach set from a s/r on my car and the springs fill the perches or the shocks perfectly to the T.

But while browsing i seen a post of the Ground Control Coilovers and noticed that they are about half the size of the eibachs. I though the ground controls used similar Eibachs that are on my car, with diffrent spring rates and adjustable hats.....

Why are the ground controls smaller and not fill up the entire perch area?

The GC springs are not what sit on the perch. There is a red sleeve with an adjustable base that sits on the perch(its the red sleeve that actually rests on the perch unless you are completely slammed then the base would also sit there). The springs are indeed way smaller than normal Eibachs. I assume this is so that there are no tire rubbing issues when you drop it. They are also quite short in height as compared to normal Eibachs. Hope that helps a little.

Like this, they are much smaller than replacements for factory perches

As far as I know, all coilovers use the smaller diameter spring.

What year kit should i buy? I know the 97+ zx2 is for ours but they dont list it for tokico shocks.

The 2nd gen has the factory option shock or tokico shock.

what does everyone use and where is the best place to buy from

As far as shocks go, we are very limited. You will need to get a set of the S/R ones. The only other performance shock I found were Mazdaspeed ones. I still have a my set, but they are sooo worn out. They are 4-way adjustable. I have tried contacting Mazdaspped dealers to get a new set (for the 90-94 Protege) but they seem to be discontinued. I loved them when they were paired with my GC's, very harsh ride but handled like champs. If you do get the GC's for the ZX2 (Andy Autosport should have them) make sure you specify a spring rating that will be compatible with the S/R struts.

I already have the s/r tokico's and the eibach springs but i want to upgrade to GC coilovers.

Then as long as you do not go with a high spring rate, you will be ok. Of course the Eibach springs you have now will be of no use anymore as the GC's come with their own special Eibach spring as pictured above.

I have a pair of front S/Rs with the OE spring perches cut off; we used our GC coilovers for one weekend while the Konis were off being rebuilt. We use a racing swaybar collar to hold the (red threaded) sleeve in place. This allows full access to the adjustable collar, which is hard to get at with the stock 'pigtail' perch. This strut matches nicely with about a 300# spring.

PM me if interested.
