Hey, I asked this before the old site crashed, but... What is your price on a Pioneer DEH-P3000IB HU? And if not that, what other head units do you recommend for that price range (or under) that have all the features as the Pioneer (basically, the iPod control, the separate sub control [so I don't blow my speakers], and aux 3.5mm[?] input)?

Thanks

I do like Pioneer, BUT in this case I would recommend the JVC KD-PDR40. It comes with an iPod wire (a $30 feature) that you can leave wired in and run it to the glovebox or wherever. It also has direct iPod control. Meaning you can control the iPod from the headunit. It also has the AUX port on the front. It has detachable face and remote control, MP3/WMA Compatible, and subwoofer controls.

I think its a better HU than the Pioneer and the best part is that it will save you $10. The Pioneer is $115, I can get you the JVC for $105 + S/H.

Ok, my question is does it have the subwoofer crossover built in to the headunit (the JVC). Cause i've played a bit with the Pioneer and right from the HU you can change the frequency, reverse the phase, and shut off the sub (i.e., if you see a cop...); therefore, there is no need to put a switch on your remote line, and you can (obviously) change the settings without going back to your amp. So, does the JVC have that function? And your price includes the JVC iPod connection? If need be, I can drop the iPod integration if it has an aux input, because before I was just using a cassette adapter with my iPod.

P.S. It could be up to 1.5 to 2 months before I have the money, just getting some quotes now.

Thanks

Yes you have full Subwoofer control with this headunit. Plus it has an ATT button which works like a MUTE just incase you see a cop.

Do some research on both HUs, once you make up your mind in a month or two, I'll be here.

Well, the jvc website had jack on it. Is there any other brands with these features (again in the price range) that will last forever? I like the looks of the Pioneer better, but I definitely like the price of the JVC better.

Kenwood KN-KDCMP238: $106
Planet Audio P245UA: $85
Clarion DXZ375MP: $110
Panasonic CQC3305U: $95

Hey, you say that the Planet Audio is a top end brand?

Yes. They only sell to Authorized Dealers, not Wal Mart, Best Buy, Pep Boys ect like Sony.

There's no retail stores that carry them? I might go with that one, depending just on what I decide.

EDIT: Oh, and would the DIN cage and wire harness be extra?

Nope, no retail stores for them.

If you have the stock radio in your car now, you will need either a Metra or Schoche kit. That is extra as well as the wire harness. Install kit with wire harness is $38.

I have a Metra, I'd just need a DIN cage and wire harness (I have the old Pioneer DEH-14 from my old car in the ZX2 now). When you say "install kit," is that the faceplate or DIN cage?

Thanks.

Gotcha. The stereo will come with the cage. All you would need is the wire harness which is $5 unless you have premium sound (stock amplifier). Then it would be $10.

Nope, no premium sound. Ok, so the total for the Planet Audio P245UA with wire harness would be $90+ shipping? I could do that in two paychecks (gotta make a car payment), or 4 weeks from yesterday. Maybe in two weeks, not sure though.

Alright, now I am ready to make a HU purchase. I just don't know which one; as of now it is between the JVC KD-PDR40 (if it is still $110+s/h) and the Planet Audio one, but I'm leaning towards the JVC. Now, are the prices still the same (quoted $110 for the JVC and $85 for the PA)? Also, just for giggles, how much more would a single DIN unit be that has DVD playback as well? Most likely won't get a unit with DVD, but just wondering.

Thanks.

Oh, and how much would the shipping be and do you think it would be here in less than a week?

Yes, those prices are still the same. I don't carry a whole heck of product in stock. Plus, when paid through paypal it takes a couple of days for the money to be transferred over. Thats why I give 2 weeks for delivery.

What would be your budget for one that plays DVDs?

Well I didn't see the shipping policy in the stickies until after I posted, but that's no problem. Just as long as the policy is stated and honored, ya know? Now, from what I've been seeing, it looks like JVC is about to stop making that model, because it is no longer sold at many of the major retail stores (trying to look at prices). Do you know if that is true? And lastly, I'm not really sure how much I'd want to spend for DVD. Again, most likely I won't get DVD because I don't want to spend that money, but I was thinking maybe $300... $350 max... I think my friend bought a VR3 brand (not sure on brand) for right around there, but he took it back cause he said it blinded him at night...

I LOVE the looks and features of the Planet Audio P590V. I can get it to you for $270.

I like Valor ITS301 and the ITS350D as well.

Man, you're tempting me with that PA for $270. The only thing is, I might be better off with the JVC for not only financial reasons, but I also don't know how much I would use the DVD function. I mean, it would be nice for trips, but I don't travel much in this car, and it's obviously not safe (and illegal) to watch a movie while driving... Any input on the situation? I could potentially buy the JVC now; it would take a bit before the funds come for the PA. Also, for the iPod functionality with the PA, how much is the IPC60 Integration Cable?

Thanks

P.S. I also think that the 80w on the PA may be too much for my stock front speakers and Pioneer 5x7's in the rear.

I have had a screen in my car for years and never been pulled over for it. Doubt a cop would ever even notice it. I mainly have it for the passengers. If I do have a movie in while driving alone, I do it to listen to. Its usually a movie that I have seen a hundred times so I know the scenes.

The IPC60 Integration Cable is $20

The headunit rms rating is only about 20 watts per channel which would be fine for the stock fronts and Pioneer rears.

Just because I don't know much about speaker wattage: The 20 watt rms rating is fine, but if/when it pegs the 80 watts that won't damage speakers rated for 50-60 watts?

So then the video HU with that cable would go up to $290? The main reason I think I'm going to go with just the JVC is that I don't think I'd use the video function very much. I'm not worried about cops, but I'm worried about me being dumb and trying to watch movies.... I've already been partly guilty of this when my friend brings his Zune in my car. I just don't want to be doing s/t stupid and end up wrecking.... So what's your shipping quote to 46819 for the JVC?

SeRiousZX2

The headunit would only hit that 80 watts for .001 seconds. Posting Max wattage on stereo products is a marketing ploy to get people to buy the "higher wattage" products. Look at amps for example. I have seen amps that were the size of a piece of paper claim a max wattage of 3000 watts. But the rms on it was 150. But most individuals rarely ever pay attention to the RMS wattage. As soon as that amp turns out and before that signal or current even hits the speakers, it has dropped significantly. If that makes since.

Saying the headunit hits 20 watts per channel is even high. A safer and more accurate quote would be closer to 10 watts. Which is still way better than factory. Factory stereos put out about 4-5 watts rms. Trust me, your speakers will be fine. Even with the JVC.

Shipping on headunits is $12.

Ok. I'm going to go with the JVC. $105+12=$117. I take it you use Pay-Pal? If so, shoot me the address, and I will send it when I get a moment. It may be a few days, cause I have funeral stuff to deal with tomorrow and Saturday.
