simple question.
do we have the same shifter as the 1991 - 1996 (2nd Generation) Ford Escort LX, LX-e, GT, Wagon.
the one on twm.com or whatever the hyperlink is, says it will fit on our zx2

I didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I'd ask here.
My shifter has some slop in it when it's in gears. Especially in the first three. I thought about getting the TWM SS and some new bushings, but thought maybe just the bushings will do it. I already have the B&M SS in my car from the factory. Thanks for reading.
I think it's something with the B&M ... i'm running one and also have the same issue , talked to a few others with B&M and they say the same ..

Maybe I'll just opt for the TWM then. Does anyone have any info on comparing the B&M and TWM SS?

i had a twm in my old zx2 and i got a stocker in my current one, i'm really convinced it's the bushings that make the difference in the slop. the twm comes with some of it's own bushings and you should really get that one bushing that goes at the end of the shifter housing. i forget what it's called, but my old zx2 shifted extremely smooth compared to stock.

I'll have to look into that and find out which bushing that is. It's really irritating with that slop in the shifter. I saw that Energy Suspension makes a shifter bushing kit. I was looking into getting that.

in the ES master kit, it comes with that shift bushing your talking about.

I just looked on zxtuner.com and saw that they make the shifter rod bushings and also the shifter stationary rod bushings. I'll have to check out the actual ES site and see what I can find.
Oh, and what does "FTMFW" mean. I'm lost when it's more than three letters.

Oh haha. I'll have to check into possibly getting a TWM SS eventually w/ new bushings.
Oh, does anyone have any input on those weighted shift knobs? They're pretty pricey. I think I'd stick with the stocker for the time being if I get the shifter. Thanks for the info.

no need for bushings with the TWM. it is ball bearing with aluminum "spacers"

i think he meant the ES bushings that are used in the shifter setup in addition to the TWM SS

in the shifter setup? there is NO bushings with the TWM. only the ones (OEM) in the front of the shifter rod at the tranny.

That's the ES shifter stabilizer bushing I'm sure he was talking about..

Whichever bushing(s) that will help eliminate the slopiness are the ones that I want. I did see that the TWM SS setup has ball bearings in the bottom of it and included all the needed spacers/hardware for install.
For those who have the TWM SS how is the shifting action? I noticed yesterday at times when I shifted it kinda sticks before it goes into gear. I wonder if it's the slight play in the shifter that is causing this?

this is caused by your transmission. not the shifter at all.

Hmm, I wonder how it would shift with the TWM SS. Would it make it worse or better? I guess the only way to really tell is to get one. I'll have to look into it.
My buddy actually just ordered one for his SRT-4. I told him that TWM has a good rep and makes some nice SS.

I have a twm in mine and let me tell you it is second to none. It is however very precise. Throw AND length is shortest out there (unless you custom cut it smaller). I had alot of slop in mine before hand and now its much better. Slopiness isn't usually the shifters fault like stated above but if you decide to get one TWM FTW!!!!
P.s. If it was late june/ early july id come show you mine(noticed you lived in PA bout 4 hr drive)

The TWM is definitely less sloppy than stock or B&M. If you are having trouble getting it into gears try bleeding the clutch and adjusting the clutch pedal. I started noticing difficulties and did the bleed/adjustment and it is much better now.
edit: Oh and someone asked about the TWM weighted knobs. I bought one and like it very much. My shifter used to rattle sometimes but with the extra knob weight it doesn't rattle anymore (but now my heat shield rattles... oh well..)

get rid of the heat shield.. it'll stop making noise

nop. the first TWM SS that was ever installed on a zx2 (well, unless you did buy a TWM when it wasnt marked for the zx2 on their website) was on a zx2 that belonged to a friend of mine (he tested the fitting for them and got his free). they were the same as now.

maybe cjw can chime in on this. from the old boards along time ago, he has said there has been three version, of which the bearing one is the newest. i have the first edition twm and it has bushings.

hm... maybe it was marked for proteges/mx3 only at that time. cuz I know for sure my friend tested the TWM on the ZX2 for them. and since them they marked it on their website.
