Last weekend I reinstalled my vct cam gear on the exhaust side and the stock cam gear on the intake side. I am receiving a 1381 code which is vct being overadvanced and i have no idea why, however i did have this same code before when i was running vct tune with the vct deleted....

any ideas what's wrong? it seems to run rough when going through the gears aprox 3k +/- 200 rpms.

sounds not timed right to me.

I'd agree w/ double checking ur timing.

180 out of timing possibly? or no?

I would look into the VCT solinoid. Being rough from 2800-3200 rpm only doesn't sound like a timing problem to me. Being rough at idle and power loss across entire rpm does.

running the stock tune? When timing this did you install teh exhaust gear with the nub at 12 o'clock?

that may be my problem, it seemed like it would only go on a certain way but i don't remember exactly if it was at 12 o'clock...and i'm running vit's 87 tune right now

With the engine at exact TDC, align the cams with the flat cam tool AFTER rotating the exhaust cam forward against it's stop.

You sure the tune has VCT delete enabled? That's the only reason for it to toss that code with a VCT delete kit installed.

what do you mean by align the cams after rotating the exhaust cam against it's stop? I of course have the tool to hold the cams in place but not sure what you mean by rotating the exhaust cam forward til it stops against what? and afterwards i align the cams with the tool?

sorry for some reason this morning i am confused about what you mean.

Thanks for all the help guys.

With the VCT installed it is necessary to rotate the cam. Without the VCT just use the aligning tool.

Rotate means turn. Our stock exhaust cam with VCT rotates to various posistons.
We have to make sure it is fully forward when setting the timing.

so do you mean turning just the cam gear it's self? basically turning it til its stops rather than turning it when it is secured to the camshaft?

With the Vct operational the camshaft will not always return to the proper position. That is why it is necessary to rotate the camshaft to the stop. Otherwise the alignment tool will not fit. You mat have to remove the gear and realign it with the cam in the proper position.

so i rotate the camshaft to the right(forward) til it stops? is that with or without the cam gear attached?

I would like to fix the car this weekend and just wanna make sure i do it correctly the first time, this time.
