Is the relay for the horn in the CCRM? Or is there a sepearate relay for it. I need to wire in my own horn due to messed up wiring. Could i even buy a relay of my own and wire that in. Or i might tap into my stock one if its fine. Which wires could it be? I really need this info guys, so promptness would be key!

thanks!

Below is a pic of the CCRM.

I think it is under the dash in the relay box.Did you check your owners manual they usually give you the location of the relay

I havents had time to look in my book, plus the book is stupid. Have an idea where under the dash though?

If your horn doesn't work, it could be the fuse. How do you know for sure the wiring is screwed? Can you not hear the relay click when you push the horn? It could just as easily be the switch in the steering wheel. Check the 'Knowledge Base' for the 'Remote Start' how-to. It contains some wire colors. One of them is the horn wire. You can find it and follow it to the relay.

I tried following it. I messed up the wiring when i did the ATX to MTX swap. I need to run my own wires, im not an electrician so finding the messed up wire is looking for more trouble. The switched worked up until i blew it because i had no relay connect and only 12v source...

I have done a custom wiring job and also custom horns now, all i need to know is where the relay is and how to wire it up.

Any one else have any idea?

I can't even imagine how you messed up the horn wires while doing the MTX swap.

Under your dash there is a cluster of relays. The horn relay has the following wires running to it:
green/yellow - Power from 15 amp 'HORN' fuse. It has two of these wires, one to power the relay and one to power the horn when the relay is active.

green/orange - Negative trigger from the horn switch and RAP module if you have factory keyless entry.

orange/blue - Runs from the relay to the horn.

Thank you so much. That seems a lot harder then i thought.

what is the point of the relay? Dumb question, i know.

The relay carries a heavier load

So it needs more then 12v all the time to power. how come when i had it directly to the battery it worked. And then it stopped? Or because i blew the switch because i cross the terminals?

Which fuse is it>?

Maybe the horn itself isn't working. Lay under the dash and push the horn button. If you hear a relay clicking when you push the button, then the relay works and your horn doesn't.

The Horn works. I stated in the first post that I am wiring up my own horn. I had issues with my horn wiring harness when i did the mtx swap and i had the steering column down.

The relay does not give more power or voltage.
It handles the switching of the heavy current so the little horn switch in the steering wheel doesn't burn out. Just like switches for other things that use relays.

Ohh okay, thats what I thought mechtech. You saved the day again in ZX2 world. Is it possible for me to buy a relay of my own?

Of course you can buy a relay of your own. Why don't you just trace out the wires and see what is wrong before you go through the trouble of wiring up a new relay?

I have said this several times. I have to do my own wiring. tracing what was messed up would take forever. I am jut trying to wire up the horn myself.

I've said this before too, tracing it isn't hard since I've given you the wire colors and exactly what circuit they go to. Tracing is free, adding a relay and wires isn't. Since you somehow messed the wires up while doing the MTX swap, then it is most likely the problem is under the dash.

Have you ever stopped and took a look at how many wires are in steering column. They go thru color switches, wrap around the column.. Its a mess by ford.

Did you really just ask that question? I wrote the 'ATX to MTX swap', the 'Remote Start with Keyless Entry' install, and the two diagrams for upgrading the fuel pump wires and running dual fans with one relay. Oh, don't forget the foglight mod. Yes, I know very well how many wires are under there. I also know they are different colors and that locating the wires I described would be no issue. Unless you can't set your own VCR. I guess some people are color blind or lazy.

That's right, screw it up and blame it on Ford. Fast, I feel your frustration.
