Without experience, go for car washing or maybe even detailiing to get your foot in the door at a dealership (corporate or locally-owned).

As for working on cars as a mechanic, probably not...but working WITH cars is possible.

It would be a fun job to clean cars up. I nearly got a part-time detailing job once but the hours didn't work for me since I had another full-time job.

My friend Poot got a job working at KFC in high school. 2 days later he quit. He burnt himself twice in a row on the wrap holder than you have to reach into. He got like a 30-40 dollar paycheck lol.

Quit your bitching.

Minimum wage was $5.15 when I did food service work. This include, and was not limited to, frying, grilling, deli, washing, cleanup, and restocking. You don't get burnt unless you're being an idiot and not paying attention to what you are doing. Besides some light splashes when putting in fries or chicken in the deep fryers, I never got burnt. I did this for 2 4 month periods (winter... local resort) for 3-4 days a week between 6 and 8 hrs. It was also $5.15+tips when I did delivery.

I feel special getting to tell the youngsters off now... "back in my day" HAHA.

Minimum wage was $4.25 when I started working. :D

That was after walking uphill both ways in 5 feet of snow all summer long, without shoes or pants.

Mine was driving 15 mins on "mountain" roads in up to 8" of snow HAHA. It's damn amazing what a ZX2 can go through with good tires while plowing snow with the front.

I think minimum wage was like 5.15 or something when i started working.. I never really paid attention to my hourly as long as i liked my paycheck at the end of the week. lol

Quit yo bitchin, I'm currently working 3 jobs, two retail sales (one with light commission), and a cook job where I usually get an oil burn once every other week when I'm cleaning our 400 degree meat grill at the end of the night. Worst part about it is that I'm still broke =[

Anyone know what an average detailer makes?

Starts around $8-10 / hr. Depends on shop and experience. If its a smaller shop, you are even less likely of even getting hired. You will want to check dealerships as they are usually more willing to let the small work to "kids". If you plan it all correctly you can pick up other skills and advance. It also depends on if you are doing full or part time.

Be prepared to do alot of bitch work then. When you turn 18, work for a factory if you dont like moving your ass. Im 20 and i work in a factory taking home 15/hr sitting on my ass w/o any experience.

Whatever you do, don't go to FedEx.

Worst place I ever worked.

I don't mind the backbreaking work (hey, good exercise) or even the extreme weather conditions, but the place is run by people with IQs of Rhinoceroses.

I stuck it out for 3 months. Most people last a week or two, but that's probably because they're lazy. I finally quit because they lied to me about my schedule and went back on something they said they'd do when they hired me.

LOL. I did this after I lost a good bank job, as a temporary thing, until i found a new job. Needless to say $$$ and overtime kept me there. Now just a couple years later I'm making $22-$38/hr working 20-40 hours a week managing.

About the car stuffs... Here's what my lil bro did:
9-16 I had my bro working with me on all my cars. Taught him the basics like oil changes. He even had a hand in doing tranny and engine swaps with me.
High school he was in the automotive program at school
16 he started working doing oil changes etc at his friend's, dad's diesel shop.
18 he went to UTI and did p/t jobs at a jiffy lube and a jeep dealership as a tech.
19 he finished UTI and went back to the diesel shop. He also got a p/t at Napa. Now he takes home around $300 a week + tons of cash on side jobs (he makes more on the weekend doing side jobs than he does working at the shop all week lol).
Going forward I only hope he finds a better job that pays more an hour, but he's still a kid, so as long as he's working his butt off and staying outta trouble I'm not going to complain. He knew what he wanted to do with his life from a very young age and has followed through. What can you take from this? I dunno, just how my lil bro got involved in the car business.

Be spontaneous... Take a job that you would never think of doing.
Currently i work for a highly recongnized food company... Roland Food Company. I taste test food, and do other scientific tests. I get 10.25 an hour and i can work when ever i want. I work 20 hrs a week. (part time). The money i bring home is sweet. But it goes right into bills.

Taste tester! That's an awesome job! Unless, it's "health" food.
