None of them were wearing seat belts? Simple little things could save your life, even when you're not 100% in control of the situation. I feel bad for those kids, and their families, but they could still be alive if each of them were just a tiny bit more careful.

Sorry for the loss.

not to mention that the cavalier has one of the lowest crash safety ratings

So, none of the three were wearing seat belts?

Im just assuming that is was the cavalier's fault.

This stuff just pisses me off. seriously. not trying to sound like a dick, but it really does. Im truly sorry to hear about your losses.

and it pisses me off even more that the inconsiderate driver of the cavalier caused two people to die and others to be injured yet he his still alive.

sounds like a typical teenage driver. thinking they are invincible and nothing will happen to them. and not realizing that a car is just a 3000lb weapon.

not being a dick, just expressing how i feel.

and im truly sorry about your loss.

ZX2VW - Bad assumption...
The SUV turned in front of the Cavalier, from a stop sign:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/dailycourier/news/s_566382.html

The damage to the vehicle is not that severe. Considering the vehicle is equipped with airbags, if they were belted, they likely would have survived. The rear of the vehicle remains undamaged and the passenger compartment appears to have limited intrusion. Wear your belts, guys; they will save your life.

This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. If the Cavalier wasn't actually speeding at the time the SUV pulled in front of him, the SUV is at fault for the collision.

I send my condolences to the families. As an accident investigator who does the scientific reconstruction of accidents for a living, it never seems to get old. It always hurts when I here of such young lives lost.

I am sorry for your loss..

You know what really gets to me though. The fact that when the dirver is at fault when in a serious accident it is usually the driver that ends up living through the incident and the passanger/s that end up passing away due to that driver's error.

Happen's all too often...
I find it more in DUI cases than anything else.

this is sad however they really should of been wearing their seat belts I bet most of them would have only suffered minor injuries. As far as your law suit comment, yes the SUV shouldn't have pulled out in front of them but its not the SUV drivers fault that the kids were irresponsible and not wearing seat belts I hope if their is a suit this is taken into consideration.

I dont think it is so much about them wearing the seatbelts because i was in an accident where if i had been wearing my seatbelt it would have killed me. I think in this case if the cavalier would not have been speeding the other vehicle would be at fault, but because the speed was a variable there technically is nothing to file a lawsuit with.

Nobody needs to come in here pissed off or all sad because of this. Do something about it. Be an advocate of saftey belts, hand out fliers, go to meetings for it, I don't care. Just don't say this pisses me off, these little teanagers, oh..I feel so bad for the kids or the parents. We've all been stupid at one time or another and maybe we were lucky. Maybe we learned from our luck or from others whom have made mistakes but have lost their lives because of it.

This isn't a tradgey. This happens everyday somewhere in the U.S. It's up to us to teach the upcomming generation, my kids, your future kids, not to do this crap, to be careful and to hang out with the right people. This country is going to hell in a hand basket and we need our children alive and well educated to be able to pull this world out of the silly slump we're in.

I've said my peace. Hope you all understand this comes from a father.;)

The sad thing is many accidents are anything but accidents. Someone fails to look both ways before proceeding, soemone runs a red light or stop sign, someone is traveling too fast for conditions, someone is determined to not let someone into traffic, etc. and a collision happens.

It isn't an accident, it's the result of poor driving.

The loss of life could have been prevented, but it's too late for that. My condolences go to the families. This is another sad lesson learned.
