Anyone else have problems with their wiper performance? I've been thinking of a way to help them work better especially at speed where they tend to lift off the windshield. I'm thinking there must be a stronger spring out there to keep the arm down and resist the lift. Anyone find a fix for this?

Never had an issue, but using RainX will dramatically improve their performance. If you put it on often enough, you won't even have to use wipers anymore, even in monsoon-like downpours.
Seriously, get some. It's an incredible product.

^^ Something similar to that is what you need. That flat panel above the blade should keep the wiper tighter to the windshield at higher speeds.
Another example...

The blades (winter blades) themselves work fine when they're on the windshield. Historically, they have smeared. There seemed to be something on the windshield since I bought it 5+ years ago that always caused the wiper blades to smear instead of clearing the windshield. I've put 5 or 6 sets of blades on it over the years. I don't think the last set has made much of a difference but rather I think whatever was on there has finally worn off. The main problem now is the arms tend to lift at highway speeds. A lot of times I find they work fine as I go through town then they don't seem to be even touching the ws on the highway especially in crosswinds and work normally again when I get back into town.

I just started using Rain-X washer fluid. It cost me a whopping $1 more per gallon than the normal blue stuff at Wal-Mart, is rated for I think -30, and gives me a perfect rain bead on my windshield. If I didn't have a bare spot on my driver's side wiper right at fricken eye level, it'd be absolutely perfect.

Valeo wipers also work very well. They are designed to be pressed against the windshield by the air flowing over them. Tirerack has them buy on get one free now.
