So I know you're not supposed to count your chickens before they've hatched, but we were really looking forward to getting this stimulus check. Now it looks like we might not get one. I called today to find out why we hadn't received our direct deposit.Turns out if you had your return direct deposited into more than one account, you get a paper check. So we get a paper check. But then she also told us that if you owe money to a federal agency, the money goes to them. She gave student loans as an example. My husband has a federal student loan through Wachovia so it will probably go there. We were just looking forward to that money. We were going to pay off a credit card, get eye exams/contacts, and have some spending money for our vacation. So yeah I'm just throwing a pity party right now. Anyone else want to join?

It should only go to a federal agency if you are delinquent on loans or owe back taxes. Call and talk to another person. They should know what you're getting, they can see it on their system...

I'm in a similar boat. I was going to have my direct deposit by today, but since I used TurboTax and paid filing fees from my refund amount, I will receive a paper check around the end of June. I don't NEED the money, but it would have been nice to have it now instead of 6-8 weeks from now.

I have a federal student loan, and I still recieved a economic stimulus payment.

fact. if you arent delinquent or in any kind of collections, they have no reason to seize your check. the same happens with your regular tax refund if youre delinquent.

but, im with you on that one. i was looking forward to the stimulus check like woah, but the ridiculous increase in gas prices has killed that high for me.

I thought I was supposed to get $2400 but got $1800 instead. Can't complain I guess because it's still a free $1800.

I also agree.. as long as it's current, I bet you'll see that check in the mail. Don't lose hope yet! :)

I thought we were going to have ours this week, but I think ours will come next week because I used Drew as the primary on our taxes and his last two are higher than mine. Not that it matters, I spent it today on a new mattress anyway. Blargh.

I didn't post it there because that thread was more about informing people on the issue with using Turbo Tax. I was starting a thread about annoyance with the Stimulus in general.

Yeah it's supposed to go by the primary's last 2 numbers.

Why did you think it was going to be $2400? And why did it turn out to be $1800?

And thank all of you who gave the info on the student loans. Makes me feel better, because we're not delinquent.

Because both my wife and I worked so that should be $1200 since we filed jointly, plus another $1200 ($300 x 4 kids). Don't know if there was a cap on the kids or what but I'm gonna find out.

my wife and I both work but we only got $600 because we didn't make enough as we were still students last year that might be why you're out $600 extra

Thats what happened to us, we made enough, but we had so many write offs our tax liability was less than $1200 so we only got $600 (Taylor was born 4 days too late, lol!)

Airmanslacker-

How old are your kids? I was under the impression that you only got the $300/kid if they worked. Example, my sister is 21 and I am 18, and we each made over $3500 last year, so we were qualified.

You qualified as a "kid" to receive the rebate.

As a parent to receive the $300 for his kids, they need to be under 17 (i think) and not work.

Sorry to jack your thread Jessica!

No you're not. You're cool.

Well if anyone finds out about the cap on kids let me know. My husband's friend has 5 kids and is under the impression he'll be getting $2700. I thought that I heard that there was a 2 kid limit, but I couldn't find it on the website.

When did you have to be under 17? I was 17 in 2007 but I turned 18 Jan of 08. If that is the case, will I get my own check then?

You would have had to have been 18 in 2007 me thinks. Thats why we didn't get one for Taylor because she was born January 4th.

I'm nor sure how it works with the money that you made....not our situation so I didn't pay attention, I just caught that your kids had to be under 17..i'm not sure if that means 17 and under or 16 and under. If your parents claimed you on their taxes then I don't think you'll be getting your own check.

Yeah, my kids are 6 and under. I think they qualify.
