I'm still lost. Step 8 even gets more detailed in the page above it for the sight impaired.

step 8 may only seem confusing because the later cars used philips head screws to support this part rather than 12mm nuts. These instructions are for an early version of the armrest, which is why it only lists 3 colors. If you don't yet have this installed, I can help you out with this.

WINNER!!! someone doubting the existence of this part and then coming to this site and getting laughs from everyone when I mentioned this part was the reason for my first posts. To all of them, PWNAGE!!

Not lost anymore; thanks. Hope this helps for anyone that happens to grab an armrest from the junkyard. Mine is already installed on the S/R.

The armrest came out as an Option in late '96 for the ' 97 model year for the Escort/Tracer Sedan's and wagons . The ZX2 uses the same rear console so it was a natural to fit , it wasn't a listed option for the Z . There is no early or late model armrest , by the time the Z came out most were gone from dealer stock , only left overs . The bracket has to be there to attach the console.

I desperately need an armrest for mine.

Any possibility of me finding a random armrest at a scrapyard and improvising?

the junk yard would be your best bet

if you can't locate an escort armrest, you could always use a focus armrest

Why do you desperately need one? So you can get your pimp lean on?

I have one of these in my '97 'scort and it has the bracket. In fact without the bracket the whole assembly would be somewhat floppy. Eventually I plan to move the armrest to the Zx2 S/R when I get rid of the 'scort next August.

The one that came in my 98 didn't have the bracket. I've since put it in my SR, and yeah, I don't push on it side-to-side, but it's not floppy. I just don't wanna rip any of the fasteners loose. If the bracket is in there, it makes removal of the center console a PITA.

A bracket would be pretty easy to fab up. Mine has one and it is sturdy as a rock.
