Project "Fads" - Rusty hood success post 76 (page 6?)

I pulled the Wings West kit off of the car last week because I'm going to be stripping the paint off the kit and getting it ready for my dads car. In doing so, spots of paint came off on the rockers under the doors. I am going to be daily driving the car here soon because the Tracker only gets 23mpg and has a CEL that I've put $400 into sensors and crap and it won't go away.

I've been debating painting the car flat black for a few weeks now so instead of dropping more a few hundred on respraying the car silver with low line paints that will only hold up for 3-4 years, I'm just going to do the flat black paint job that zxtwou2 posted here: http://teamzx2.com/showthread.php?t=17787 I'll be putting a spare trunk on that isn't dented to hell along with shaving the doors and antenna since that wont take hardly any time to do and then doing the paint.


After the paint job is done I majorly have to get the rear brakes working as they are shot and the e-brake doesn't work at all (stuck). I have the parts to fix that so that's not a big issue. I may have to replace the brake line that runs back along with the T at the subframe and the 2 short lines from it unfortunately as they are in really bad shape.

Got two tires today and other 2 are ordered and will be in later this week or next week... going on my gold Motegi TrakLites which will be thrown on the car, so it's not "murdered out" anymore cause I'm not doing black rims.

My 17x8" rims are only 14.6 lbs a piece... thats damn light compared to most other wheels that size. Then again, they retail for $330 a piece, probably one of the more expensive setups any ZX2 owner is/has run.

I already have them for the "real" build so they are going on. I may screw around and throw my dads wheels temporarily on if I can talk him into it.

It's "illegal" to ship something like that probably... since its hazardous. I have received a gallon of laminating resin in standard UPS before... leaked like a pint out of it and the box was sticky as hell from that LOL.

kind of a jerkish statement. There are lots of people that have put psuedo-expensive rims on their zx2s.

Started the rusted hood today. Its sitting outside with the top striped coated in a mix of soda, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, a lot of salt, and a little water. I just mixed together some common household stuff that I saw people were using to rust metal.

That hood took way longer than I wanted to strip it. Came off a black ZX2 in the junkyard yesterday and the hood started off silver, then had some filler on the front, then gold, then black, then the top black. Primer between all those layers. I still didnt get all the factory rust resistant coating off but it will flake off once the rust really starts. Its ground/sanded down to bare metal.

Anyhow, hit it with the hose and a red scotch brite to knock almost all of it off to try again, this time just a light coat and see what it does over a few days. Hopefully a lighter color rust this time.

A lot of those guys do the hood on purpose, same with some e30 bmw guys and even people with newer cars than that are doing it so I consider it a fad.

Same as last, after I rinsed it and scrubbed it to the "clean" pic, I just let it sit for ~45 minutes then sprayed it one time. Last time I sprayed it 4 or 5 times over 6 hours.
