3/4" high density particle board
1/8" high density rubber mat cemented to the back

The piece replaces the stock foam that was on that side of the trunk. It sits flush with the right side foam which holds the jack and tools. It is very sturdy and stronger than the factory foam. The two foam pieces were dovetail fit together...so the wood is also dovetailed at the spot they touch and they are too locked together as if it was stock. It is also held at the rear by a tab which was also found on the factory foam.

I need to add 1 more standoff towards the back on the tire side where the big gap is and then it will be ready for coating. I am going to coat it with a textured black paint.

This is really just a very simple build. Keeping the stock headunit, speakers, and premium amp. Ordered a Navone passive LOC and am going to tap the rear speakers at the floor in the back seat. And have a knukonceptz 8 gauge amp kit for a small "25watt" US Amps USA-50 with either a 6.5" ED Eu-700 stealth mounted somewhere(dunno where yet) or a 15" old infinity beta in an infinite baffle setup using the hatch lid as the baffle.

:wickywicky:

Will post pictures after I get it coated and all the amp stuff mounted.

Nope...was busy and I am still waiting on a couple of parts to come in to do the install. :-(

No picture updates yet but the amp is mounted, the LOC is mounted, and the loc is connected to the rear speakers.

The door sill panels are a royal pain to get off. I still need to run the power wire and power up the amp.

Got a brilliant plan for an out of the way IB installation of the eu700 6" sub I have at home. Shouldn't be all that hard and it should look like it was supposed to be there if I do it right.

Thinking about doing a hardwood floor in the trunk too with a layer of deadener on the back of it too. That should about finish up the hatch portion of my car then.

you going with an IB setup on a 6" sub? lol whats the point. Just get a little box.

what LOC did you get? I'm looking to get one for the passat and trying to decide if I should get a decent one or the cheapest I could find.

It is a temporary setup until I can get the 10" enclosure made. Also I have heard them IB...better than stock.

Navone 2channel. They get rave reviews. Also you can tap into the rear speakers at the rear and not have to touch the dash which is nice. It is powered and you can tap at the amp for that and then it has a remote wire built in. Good times. Search for reviews on google or bing. People have said if you are going to go for a trunk mounted passive navone is the way to go. :D

Messed up my toe and have had to take the last 3 days soaking it and resting in my off time. So probably won't be anything done until after it heals up. So close. :-/

Is the amp going to get enough ventilation in there?

I don't think it will overheat. It may get warm but I'm not going to be pushing it hard.

Pics later today when I get out to the car at lunch

2 more crappy pictures!

Amp is all wired and tested and it is functioning perfectly. Wire ran in the engine bay has split loom over it. Fuse is mounted to the back of the battery box and then the loomed wire is ran into the battery box from the back. You can't see it at all and it is frankly friggen hard to get to the fuse. But it is 100% stealthed. :cjw: One thing I am not happy with is I need to make a new interconnect. I don't like it currently because there is about 2 foot too much wire there. :pissed:

Wood hatch floor will be going in shortly to replace the stock carpet. And I decided to just order a nice side mount box made by a guy named Nik Brewer. He is going to build it around my e3.6 sub. Will be slick!

**edit** It is painted with a single coat of high temp black paint I had laying around. No need to be fancy. No one will ever see it.

Nice. My wiring is all showing in the trunk but I don't have the carpet in (I took it out when I first got it cause it's got like corrosion or s/t on it and just have never washed it). But I need to get some thicker plywood than the crap particle board because it freaking bends under the weight of my sub. So I want to do some fancy wood stuffs in the trunk to keep the sub box and my sockets from moving around. And then so I can put the carpet back and hide my wires lol.

My false wall that I built for the zx2 a couple years ago got traded in with a car not too long ago. I was angry because I wanted it back before the guy traded the car in. :-/

explain to me in layman's terms what a false wall is/does... please :)

CJW

Ok well a walled setup is basically sealing your trunk completely and then firing your subwoofer into the cabin.

My false wall was basically a sealed box attached to a wall in the trunk. It was carpeted on the side you saw and deadened on the side you didn't. It held 1 12 and 1 amp on the side you couldn't see.

Oh.... I'm not going that far cause my sub came in a dual ported box. I just want some wooden dividers (painted black, of course) to keep that box and my socket sets in place so they are not moving around and so I have a set space for them and for other stuff I want to put in the trunk. I'll take pictures if I ever get around to it lol.

That shouldn't be too tough. If you were closer I'd help you out. In fact if anyone in PA wants help designing or building shoot me a message and we will work something out. I enjoy it.

I'm not sure what I want to do with the zx2 now. I definitely want to get it running perfect again. Then I might install a small setup of some sort. I am really hooked on the whole airbag setup with 15" or 16" steelies right now though for some weird reason. I just worry about running bags all year round and it becoming my daily again. Rubber + bad weather = bad time.

kinda sorta like mine? with the rough plywood on the sides (the quick and dirty way of course). i got my cleaners on the drivers side of the box and my jumpers & tow strap on the passenger side.
