alright, well in the late 90's Mitsubishi made the eclipse, well i loved the bucket style seats in the back. and i was wondering if there would be any possible way, to get the same kinda thing in our cars. anybody have any ideas? or anything like that?

thanks in advance.

and here is some pictures of what im talkin about

There's a junkyard near you. See how much modding it'd take for them to bolt up, and how crappy itd look. I like em too. I just dont care how my passenger's ass feels lol.

That's probably still considered a bench seat, just with a console in the middle.

Camaros have similarly-styled seats too.

Yeah, just measure and hit a junk yard. Mounting can always be fabbed up if the measurements are right.

Probably uncomfortable, but you don't care about that. It would look nice in a ZX2.

1986-1992 rx7's use that style of seat, its kinda easy to find the fc's in junkyards

A1.ok... lets see you have 3 posts.
A2your not known very well around here
A3and you go around calling people ricers?

B. A ricer is an individual who does cosmetic modifications to an ordinary vehicle to make it appear fast. This is often complimented by neon lights, vinyls/stickers or large rear spoilers.

how is creativity. rice?

probe-boy90
05-13-2008, 01:33 PM
umm. . .ok, how would putting loud speakers in a car to make it appear fast be any different than rear bucket seats that would, in the end, prove worthless?

scort2498
05-13-2008, 01:36 PM
thats irrevalent it is just a copy paste from another website. what is relevant is how you can go around calling people ricers when you dont know them who they are or what they have done.
how would putting in a new rear seat be classified as rice or make it appear faster.

sunshine: you could always try the rear recaross from an mx3. they are nice and bucket like. they fit second gen escorts with little mods.

I don't mean to answer your question with a question but: how would loud speakers make a car appear faster?

exactly gtfo. all you do is go around and try to flame people. I already answered that question saying i didn't write that. U have no argument. You have nothing to say so get out. Your probably 16 with an escort thinking it is fast and u wanna beat a whole bunch of "ricers" well heres your first tip go buy an electric supercharger. I heard it makes crazy power.

your diggin a huge hole kid, you might want to bail out now.

as for the rear seats, i believe this was talked about from the old site, i believe it is going to sit up to high because there isnt much room below the factory rear bottom seat. i think somebody said that it would work if you cut some space out of the bottom.

idk, i hope you get this workin, i was wanting to do it because i like the way it looks but i dont have the time to start a big project like that.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :'( :'( wittle baby gona cry....

Idc, report me, you brought this upon urself.

But, swap back seats doesn't make u a ricer, and it doesn't make ur car look faster. Same with loud speakers, it doesn't make a car look faster. If someone was smart they would, know that the weight of the speakers would actually slow their car down. Some people just like playing there music loud so everyone else can here it, who cares! now.......... GTFO

ya actually it can. Think about it, speakers weigh about 10+ pounds, and box is about 5-10. Thats, w/ 2 subs and box, about 30 pounds. Then you have your amp which is about another 5 pounds, so all in all around 35 pounds, if not more. Seriously, weight can make the difference of seconds in a race.

Dude stfu. i've been using the internet for 7 years i don't need your lessons. i have plenty of internet experience on my own. thanks.

And I have two degrees that are based in technology. I am not going to waste my time finding a fail picture for you. So lets see, seven years using the internet. Now, factor in people with your mentality would say that by touching one they used it . . I would say you started around the age of ten, and that you are from that 16-18 years old.

Think of it this way buddy boy. Before you started "using" the internet, I had already been elbows deep in an 8085.

You aren't redcharge or blake are you?

Back on topic of the thread. I think seats like that would look nice. Not sure about comfort, but I wouldn't mind having a set as long as they weren't too intensive to get fitted.

You're seriously underestimating the weight of a good speaker. Lol.

Every 100 pounds is ABOUT .1 of a second in the quarter. Just a FYI.

TO THE OP

Take your stock seats and carve the bases out and add foam to the center... doing 1/2 carving and 1/2 building. Then you will need to make custom covers.

I could do it, wouldnt be too bad. CarbonTC could also do it. It would also provide more head room for the people in the rear... which is lacking with the current seats.

the rear seats sound like a great idea, i would of gave that a try if i didnt already re upolster my rear seats but who knows, i can always experiment on another zx2 in the jy with other rear seats.

btw with all this talk of being a ricer. whats this guys problem. what is he going to call me a ricer for just recently putting in racing seats, lol. come on probe-boy post some pics of your car, i really want to see this

Here is an old project of mine... just blew the dust off to take pics. Rear foam was shaved down around 1.25" - 1.5" so that's that much more head room. If you look at the dark line on the back of the center where your ass would be, that's just above where the foam originally was.

The dark foam area where nothing is sanded will be getting 1" foam glued on and then tapered down in the back to meat the existing foam. The 2 holes in the rear from shaving down a lot of foam will be filled from the backside, along with the other 2 areas under each seat.

ya I figured I was but I'd rather guess too low than too high. But I was always told that just around 40 pounds could make a second difference... guess I was lied to... or maybe I'm just the noob! lol

how hard would it be to mod the bottom half of the mx3s rear seat to fit? they fit in the 2nd gen escortswith very little mods. just an idea

It all would depend really. Lets say they are size wise a perfect fit. Depth, length, and width. It would be somewhat easy. Essentially carrying over the clips from the stock Z seats, to the other with some minor modification for better fitment. Assuming of course that it sat flush with the body (fitment for seat to under seat).

Now, if they were to narrow they would need additional material added in. Altogether not hard. Basically split the seat, add more in the center. However, finding a similar material so you wouldn't be able to feel to much of a difference would be a task. Nothing beats ten years of sitting on foam to make it squishy.

If it was too wide, it would be taking a section out in the middle. It would be easier than adding more in at least. However, then you have issues of the flow of the seat. Also losing the bucket style.

All in all it is possible. If I had more room to work with I could fab up the foam piece at least. However, I am now working 50 hours. Add in a girlfriend to the mix, and looking for a house on the side, and then my side work of building computers, I have little free time. Besides, I never finish a project all the way through. It would sit in the basement collecting dust.

I think Josh could get pretty far with what he already has though.

i would like the seat to have a little more cushion on the bottom, too bad the gas tank is directly below. putting more padding around and on in the middle of the seats might work as a pseudo style buckets, with out changing the height.

If you look at the bottom side of the rear seats, you will notice there are 4 cone shaped areas... I believe these are to make the foam feel "softer". Well, since I shaved my seat down and opened the rear 2, I am going to fill these "cones" with foam and sand flat... which will give more support while adding more head room from shaving.

Regardless, changing the shape of the foam will require new covers to be made.

holy shit. lol. things that happen when i dont check my threads haha. but yeah.

everything that had to do with the thread made a good bit of sense.
and yellow, ya just might have something goin there!

there is a mx3 in a junkyard near me, so i think i might just get some measurements out of my car, check them in the mx3, and if they are close, ill rip the back seat out of there, and see what i can do to make it work in mine.

thanks guys!
p.s. if i do get to do this, and get it done, i just might post a how-to on it with pictures.

What are the years from these cars that ya'll are speaking of? I read the threads to get ideas for my ZX but whenever someone mentions a car without a year or model it because difficult for me to do my homework on it.

mellowness65
07-01-2008, 10:08 PM
ehh don't worry about homework, just go to the jy and see what looks cool and remotely the same size. I wouldn't worry about rear seat comfort much as 4 inches of foam isn't much with over 100 lbs in them, and headroom is not there anyway. If you're over 10 the back seat wasn't designed for you :(
