I went to install my spec stage 3 pressure plate today to find it won't go over the pins on the flywheel, its as if the holes in the pressure plate are too small. Any ideas?

Measure the pins & holes first. Do they look like they are aligned properly? I would trust the flywheel pins (assuming stock flywheel) to be properly positioned more than an aftermarket cover.

Yes, they are aligned fine, and it is a stock flywheel.

its a spec 3 clutch. it also has powdercoat on there making the dowel pins a very tight fit. just make sure when you tighten it down, go in a star pattern with a .25-.5 turn each screw. it will be a little tough to get it down but you arnt messing it up. once you get it to torque spec, the plate should be touching the flywheel.

kthx

Take a small round file and get the powder coating out of the holes and try again.

*edit* ^^ these to beat me to it while i was typing.

the paint they used on the pressure plate is probably just a little to thick. align the plate over the pins and use the bolts to pull the plate to the flywheel. tighten each bolt a little at a time and in a crisscross pattern.

if the bolts are not able to make contact with the flywheel to start the above process, take a small file and remove a little material at a time. you want the fit to be tight.

agreed. you can just put the bolts in and tighten it until it pulls the plate in on the pins, but you risk warping the plate that way...i suggest taking a rat-tail file and going lightly over the holes until it fits easily.

its not tight enough to warp a pressure plate lol. its just paint.

Great, I used a file to get the paint out and it fits now. Putting the trans in tomorrow, wish me luck!
