The other night i had to back out of a driveway and it wouldnt come out of reverse after. It finally came out after a few minutes. However, after that when i took off down the road i didnt have 2nd or 4th gears. All i had was 1,3,5. After i got home i tried reverse and it wouldnt go into that either. I drove it up my ramps to see if the shifting rod was screwed up or something but it looked fine. Anyone have an idea? Is my tranny fried? It does have 222,000 miles on it.

internals are broken , not shift forks, but there is another part that breaks that would cause this.. or you have horribly loose bushings and they wont let you put it in the back 3 gears

no symtoms leading to this at all. It just happened. the bushings arent so bad that it wouldnt go in gear.

id say check all points in shift linkege then go from there

Then I'd say linkage is the problem.
Also, you must be very insensitive to your car.
We had an earthquake here this morning, and maybe something like that is your only excuse.

No, i am not insensitive to the car at all. I got a good deal on it and i mainely bought it to save gas. And at 33 miles a gallon average, it did just that compared to my big 'ol Buick. I did check out the linkage when this happened and it looked fine and i had a friend in it going through the gears with the car off of course when i was under it and it did'nt seem like anything was binding up. Could the wrong type of fluid cause problems? I checked the tranny fluid and it did'nt seem to be atf. Or maybe it was and just discolored. What do these trannys use for fluid? I have no manual but i thought for sure they use atf.
