Question:
Are all the dash kits shitty?
The one i got from crutchfield.com isn't that great; it doesn't fit well.
And I broke off one of the metal brackets, so I had to order a new one.
Good way to waste $70.

yeah, i dont actually need the whole dash kit. just the bracket. so once i get that dash kit, i'm just gonna switch the bracket cuz switching everything would be a bitch.

crutchfield sells the metra kit. The metra is the better made of the two style of aftermarket adapters. If you broke the clip, then it is likely your fault. Did you try to bend it or pull on the adapter when you were installing it?? The most common problem I have seen when it comes to installs of the dash kit is the routing of the wiring. Most people do not guide the wiring in and place it out of the way. Instead they push the adapter in and just expect the wiring to magically go into place like the ford unit does. Be careful that this is not what you do. I have seen many people break the plastic clips that the metal clip attaches to. If you do this, then you have another problem :(

it wasn't on any of the wiring harnesses. it was the clamp that holds the face plate in the dash (on the sides). i tried bending it out so it sticks in the dash better and snap... it broke. it was metal so i didn't think it would break.
and it seems that the right side doesn't clip into the dash as well.

just as I thought :? This happens to a lot of people. Both sides clip in as intended right out of the package. You probably did not test fit the adapter before you put the headunit into it. When you get the clip, test fit the adapter without the headunit installed. You will notice that it snaps into place as intended. As I mentioned previously, you will have to guide your wiring into the openings making sure that they are not catching on anything or bunching up when pushing the headunit in (the large white plug on the right needs this done because it is no longer held in place on the side of the headunit as the ford unit was :judge: ).
Also be sure you follow the instructions that were provided. The instructions mention cutting out a small section of the radio opening. If you do not do this, you will bend the connections for the defrost button and make it difficult to clip that side in.

you have problems, you just don't know it. If you ever have to remove it, check to see if the defrost wiring switch is bent, it will be. You probably also bought your adapter used and did not follow any sort of installation instructions. The OP bought his new from crutchfield, so it did come with the installation instructions, have him post picture 4 on page 2 of the instruction sheet.

I have the instructions I just could not figure out what they wanted me to cut. I'll go look at the controls right now too.
Because they're not real pictures, just drawn pictars.

this is an example of wiring being kept simple and routed properly. OP this is what you need to make sure that your wiring looks like this. The source to your problem is likely that the wires are preventing the faceplate to clip into place, which is why you bent the clip. I just straightened this situation out for someone with a tan interior that had it professionally installed.

this part, if left, will come into contact with the wiring for the defrost switch. It will not be noticeable when the headunit is installed. Some cars have a smaller part than what is pictured and may not necessarily need this part trimmed.

Actually, there is seared off plastic all the way around the radio hole; I believe the previous owner cut it off all the way around.... Especially because my dash kit does not stay in the hole, as in, I can pull it right out with out using the "U" tools.
lol, dareall said my wiring job was good. this makes my day :).

hmmm.... i didnt cut anything off. i'll have to look at that when i replace the clip. i remember vit telling me he didn't have to cut anything, so i assumed i wouldn't have to. also, that isn't the side i was having issues with. i broke the clip on the left side cuz i was trying to bend it out for a better fit. the right side doesn't hold very tight, so i was going to bend that side out as well, but since i broke the left side, i decided not to mess with it.
otherwise the deck fits in fine. i routed the big white harness to the right and pushed it back. the wiring for the deck was pushed to the back as well.
I should ban him for incompetence.
you would ban me if the wind blew the wrong way.

When I installed car stereos for a living, I would usually try to get all the wires below that little shelf, and then I'd just run the radio harness up from behind, through opening at the back left part of that shelf. I would also usually have to break off at least some of the plastic around the inside of the oval opening that goes behind the kit, but be careful not to break off too much. It was a lot of trial and error. I always used a Metra kit. The Scosche may fit differently.
