Oh shit son. It's getting to be about that time. Some of the riffs sound awesome but the lyrics still sound kinda cheesy.

Apparently Rick Rubin makes them sit and listen to Master of Puppets a lot haha.

I signed up for the site and went ahead and per-ordered the new album. I wasn't into them as much when St. Anger came out. I think this one will be pretty good.

as soon as I heard the lyrics "suicide? I'm already dead" I closed the site in a fit of rage.
They are beating the dead horse here. They have stopped evolving and have become so consumed with themselves they no longer continue to evolve as a band. As much as I respect them for being one of the biggest, most well known bands in metal/hard rock, they are just on the downword spiral. I think the best thing for these guys to do would be to dump the label, and each of them sit in their own rooms and write their own music, then get together, and see what they come up with.

Ha I feel ya on that lyric. I started laughing when I heard it. Some of the riffs on there are pretty sick. I think it'll be ok. Even if it sounded like Load I'd be cool with it. Megadeth has Metallica beaten finally I think.

metallica should stop making music and just retire. i mean, i grew up on them but everything after "I Disappear" was just lame. they have more than enough money to retire so why the hell not.

They are label puppets now... nothing less, nothing more. They used to have some good stuff, but ever since Lars took it upon himself to sue their fans back in the Napster days, the label has had an even tighter grip on them and they're like pawns. Nothing new and innovative anymore. Kinda sad.

^ what he said.
Last time I was excited about a metallica album coming out I was in the 4th grade.
The black album was a bit of a disappointment, but the weeks leading up to it I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. since then they've been pushing out this pseudo metal and trying to pass it off as Metallica.
They just need to give it up already, some bands can go for years or even decades but it seem Metallica just isn't one of them.

That's funny. They still sell out arenas and every show they play.

So does Coldplay (I had to buy tickets for my mom and the g/f... two shows at the United Center, both sold out in 10 min)... it doesn't mean they don't have a following... it's clear they do. They just aren't doing anything to bring new fans to the table. They've gotten lazy and it shows. They would rather blend in than innovate and evolve.

From what I've heard the new album is going to be really good. I hope I'm not wrong.

It just seems they have turned into exactly what they used to hate. I was a huge fan back in the day. Not so much anymore.
Would I go see them if given the chance at tickets for under $100 a piece, yeah probably.
I saw them about 5 years ago, the first tour with the new bass player and it was great. But nothing compared to the show 10 years before that.

I heard a new song on the radio last night. It was "The Day That Never Comes" and they played all 8 minutes of it.
Not bad. It wasn't incredibly exciting, but it was a lot better than their last few albums' worth of stuff and is better than most of the crap that passes for music on the radio now.
I probably won't buy it, but I'll leave it on when it comes on the radio.

I heard it yesterday too for the first time. The drumsound is definitely older metallica, nice and dry. The clean, intricate guitar was there, but i think it fell flat on the chorus when the distorted guitar kicked in. Not too bad though, and I'm not the world's biggest metallica fan by any means.

I'm listening to the new song now. I signed up for the missionmetallica thing back in July or so I think. So I have been pre-ordered for a while now. This new song is really good.

Yeah the more I listen to the day that never comes I love it more and more. If 4 minutes and up doesn't make you head bang then you need to check yourself.

I used to like Metallica in my high school days, but I eventually grew up and realized for the majority, Load and on sucked. I say the music (from this song at least) really is a good improvement from the previous decade, and it's long like the old songs. But regardless of that, to me a big part of the suck over the past 10 years has been the way Hetfield sings opposed to the old albums. I know not everyone can growl their entire music career, but I can't stand how he adds "UH" to the last word of practically every sentence! It seems he's gotten better about it this song, but he still does ("The day that never cooooommmmes-uh!"). Drive me nuts.

I've been listening to the new album while at the gym, and while I like it (surprisingly.. it's "good" but not "great") the one thing I don't really care for is Lars' drumming. When there's a slower beat, he can't keep time andI hate the sound of his snare and bass repeatedly going 'bang boom bang boom'... he needs to throw some real hard fills in there (he does it on some tracks, but he does the bass-snare-bass-snare thing way too much IMO). Other than that, I don't have any real beef with it, it's a decent album, better than I was expecting it to be.

So here is what I think of the album. Overall I give it a 9/10. It really is fantastic. The solos are back, the drums sound a lot better, the fast heavy riffs are back and oh yeah there's even an instrumental like the old days. It is also in standard (E) tuning, the first album to be in standard since the 1991 Metallica album (Black album). James Hetfield's voice is ok but what do you expect from an old metal head like himself? Rob Trujilio must have kicked their asses and said let's do something heavy. New producer Rick Rubin is also a breath of fresh air compared to Bob Rock who I personally blame for the last 17 years or so. Shitty for me is Bob Rock is producing my favorite band's (311) new album.
My personal favorites now are "That Was Just Your Life", "The End of the Line" which derived from a song Metallica titled "The New Song", "Broken, Beat and Scarred", "All Nightmare Long", and "The Judas Kiss".

its ok, but i think after black, it all went downhill after that. i think the new album is pointing them in a different direction, and some like it. but when i think of metallica, i just dont think about that kind of softer rock. i like it if you think of it as being a rock album, but its no good as a metal album

Yeah it definitely rocks. The part towards the end of All Nightmare Long gets me pumped. If you're not head banging then there is something wrong with you.
