Our ATX only has 30,000 miles on it, but it is 9 years old. I seem to have lost the owners manual. I know some people never change it, some people say it's a must. When should I look into changing it and the filter?

i did mine after 60k miles, but the tranny was replaced with like 20k miles. i'll look at the owner's manual tomorrow and tell you what Ford thinks.

For "Normal" driving Ford does not reccomend a change, only inspection. For "special operating conditions" a change is reccomended at 30000 miles.

My tranny just died with 226K on it. I changed the fluid every 20K or so. It's cheap and easy, why not? The fluid is amazingly not too bad, the conveter and seals are shot though.

Get an inline trans cooler [along with your stock one].
Change the fluid every 2 years.

Is there a how-to on changing the tranny fluid? My sister, I think needs hers changed. It's not shifting smoothly at all.

The fluid change may not fix it. It is probably worth a shot, but don't get your hopes up.

The car has about 60K on it, so I thought it would be time anyways.
