So I was changing my valve cover gasket, and seafoamed the car. I pulled the plugs to swap in some new ones, when I noticed the plugs that I pulled (NGK) where almost a quarter inch shorter in the threaded section than the ones I picked up. WTF? Needless to say I have yet to switch them. The car runs fine, idles smooth, accelerates smooth and has no misses. What do you guys think? Anyone have some part numbers handy?

It's a 99 btw

Forgive my ignorance...I need a haynes manual bad

Avoid the problem completely and buy Motorcrafts.

the new plugs I bought are motocrafts lol, I just wanted to check and make sure they are the correct plug, it's the difference in size that makes me nervous, last thing I need is a cracked piston, or stripped plug threads. Anyone have a quick pick of what a plug looks like? Just want to make sure I got the right ones..

I was also told to buy motorcrafts back when I inquired about NGKs. Well, I went for the NGKs anyway since I was too lazy to return them.

Awesome plugs, I recommend them.

Edit: funny enough, this was also when I was seafoaming my car :)

The threads on the plug must match the thread depth in the head - you can't have it too long or short.
And once again, go get the Motorcrafts for a sure thing.

And too bad you Seafoamed the engine. Run Chevron Techron, Gumout Regain, or Redline S1 through a tank of gas. It cleans EVERYTHING in the system with no bad side effects.

See... NGK is all i'll run. That's not saying anything bad about Motorcraft's, i'm sure they're great. But i like NGK's better.

And before anyone asks, i have run them back to back, new MC's to new NGK's. While there were no real differences in idle or acceleration or any of that, both were tested for gas mileage and the NGK's performed better.

There is a reason they're that expensive... they're the best.

shell gas is good to clean the system as well lol

Actually shells "V-power" cleaning agent is actually Chevron's "Techron." A lot of company's buy Chevrons Techron and market it as their own thing...

Some companies say their plugs work for the ZX2/Focus/Contour, but their plugs are shorter and don't go all the way into the combustion chamber. That's whyt he NGK plugs were so short.

Top Tier gas has good cleaners, but not very much at all.
A shot of Chevron Techron, Gumout Regane, or Redline S1 in the tank is a great idea once or twice a year.

The NGK's i ran were the same length as the Motorcrafts. Might have given him ones for the SPI as i believe they are shorter.

Run what you want. I run what i want. I'm not saying everyone switch to NGK plugs. Just that it's what i use, and that is all, and that i haven't had any problems w/ them.

Errrm. I just got my car 4 months ago, and the NGK's where in it when I got it.
I bought the motorcrafts to replace them, and the motorcrafts where longer. So rather than being a champ and tossing some long ass plugs into my car and cracking a piston or shooting all 4 of them through my hood, I thought it best to check with the guy's on here...
