I'm hoping to change out my trans next weekend. Anyone up to helping out? It ought to be most of all day Saturday. Food and drinks provided as well as free bench racing.

Time is running out on this once and a lifetime deal....

I got dirtbikes....and one of them even runs!

But seriously now, I'm not presuring you, you just won't want to miss lying on your back on hard concrete all day over Memorial day weekend instead of going to the shore!

12 hrs. total work time, by myself, trans swap is done. 4.5 hr's Friday night after work and had the engine and trans on the ground and seperated. Got it running right before dinner tonight :) and I didn't even start working this morning until 10am. It goes much easier the second time around in six months. This motor is fairly simple and pretty easy to do by yourself. I wasn't sure I'd be able to handle putting it in, but it wasn't to bad.
So, we'll see what I forgot to hook up or tighten Tuesday on the way to work :D
Thanks for the offer to come help Jaybird....how'd your work go?

Tygen1, I assume you swaped ATX to MTX? Also curious to know what tools you use to swap and also how you actually remove the tranny (the damn ATX is quite heavy). This is something I have been considering for a while but certain factors keep me from going for it.

Na, I just swapped a fried 226K atx for a fresh $65, 44k, junkyard atx. I prefer to let the car do the shifting in the heavy traffic I drive every day to work.
I just used a cherry picker engine hoist to lift the whole engine and trans out. It actually isn't to hard. The first time I really struggled with it. It took three nights after work to get it done. This time, I knew exactly what to unhook and what to leave. Next time it should go much fast, although I'd rather not do it again for a long time. The only special tools you need are some sort of pry or crow bar to get the cv's off and a strong air impact gun with air compressor. It would take three times longer with out all the air and electric tools I use.
If you need, I have a flywheel, bellhousing shim, and crankshaft position sensor housing for a MTX. They were on the motor I bought from Yellow2000SR. They are free to you if you really are going to do the mtx swap.

FatDave, yup, I blow by Deptford each day on 42. Not far at all. Occasionally I drop by DHY (Deptford Honda Yamaha) to pick up bike parts. You might see me around, I drive the stock, very dirty, dented up, blue ZX2 with a borla muffler and hitch, and I look just like my avatar :) The muffler is pretty much all that sets mine appart from every other stocker around, that and the scentifically placed speed dents.

Sorry about the stereo type. I couldn't help myself :D I prefer a stock looking car, that way when I get beat, it's no surprise. However if I win, then their embaracement is ... wait a sec. I've never won. I'll guess I'll figure that out if I ever win :)

Ok, so I'd be down for meeting up sometime. Maybe Atco for a cheap test and tune night or something like that. I'm dying to see just how slow the old ZX2 is.

There's no shame in a slow time at the track. I'm fully expecting high 16's. It's just a nice place to bench race and practice a little, safely and legaly. You can even show off, you know, that smokey burnout was necessary to heat up the old hard tires :)

Anyone know how much atco costs? All I could find online is $10 gate fee, $13 to race. Do you have to pay both fees to get in and race? The last time I went down the quarter was in 1998 at 103mph :) That's not 19.98 sec's, thats the year!

When I hit the track it is usually Tues or THurs nights, usually fewer people there. I went about two months back and it was $15 to race. From what I remember weekends are more (Fri nights sometimes have test & tune about $15 as well....VERY busy). And there is no shame in running before your mods are done. In fact it is a good idea. THis way you will have a basis to see just how much they have helped. I know stock i ran a 17.5 years back. My best so far has been a 16.1, but my chip needs some improvement and then I know I could hit 15.9 :cyclops:
Lets start throwing dates out there that we could do a meet. If you guys are set on Atco that is cool with me (would cost us to get in even if we don't race) but meeting at someones house is wonderful too.

Good input Jaybird. I mentioned Atco because the last time I was at any drag race was ten years ago. This last Monday marked ten years for me in the Philly area. I went to school in Texas and the local dragstrip, Hallsville, had a test and tune night every Thursday evening for $7. I'd go almost everyother week, I couldn't afford every week otherwise I would have. I was in a car club, but 99% of the time I went alone, just learning and making mistakes till I figured it out. I kept every time slip I ever got, my very first time was a 14.9, my best time ever was a few years later, 1997, 13.69 @ 103, not in a ZX2. Good time and good memories, the smell of burnt rubber and race gas. I've been telling myself for the past ten years that I needed to go sometime, so I'm looking for any excuse.

Tues or Thurs nights should be good for me, of course I need to pass it by my better half so I don't leave her with two screeming children and nothing but anger at her husband who is out playing at the track.

You and me both now (my wife and i had our first on 5/16)! :D I will take a look at the schedule and see if any evenings look good. Only issue now is the heat is gonna kill performance, but racing is still fun

Congrats Jaybird! Welcome to adulthood ;) In my mind I'm still a punk teenager, my wallet even thinks I'm still a teen, No money :) Childeren has brought on a welcome responsibility. I have been blessed with a great wife who really cares to raise our childeren well, with me of course :)
Not worried about the heat, we'll wait till later in the year to go big. I want to test and tune with the Pot's and shift resistors to get some good settings....for the heat.
I remember one night I went to the track and the barometer dipped real big with no humidity. It was something like being 300' underground. My times improved by 4 tenths. It was amazing how much faster everyone was.
Tuesdays then?
