The first official photographs have been published of the new Honda S2000, the latest addition to the new generation of Hondas launched in 2004 with the Civic Type-R and added to more recently with the Integra Type-R.
The Honda S2000 joins Honda’s sports car family which has always been defined by power and performance. It also flanks the flagship Integra Type-R in the prestige sporty compact segment.

The new Honda S2000 will satisfy even the most demanding of owners in term of its superb vehicle dynamics and driving pleasure. The new model will be available exclusively as a convertible with a folding hard top. Both chassis and bodywork are aluminium, in line with the rest of the current range. The S2000 will be powered by a new I4 engine mounted for the first time in the marque's history in the mid-front position.

In line with Honda tradition, the new model also features several innovations. Apart from its folding hard top, these include the original 2+ concept which guarantees exceptional versatility of use in the rear of the car. The S2000's 2,400 cc I4 engine features direct fuel injection and a "flat" crankshaft. It generates 310 BHP at 8,500 rpm with a torque curve that enhances vehicle dynamics and provides maximum driving pleasure which is typical for Honda.

As per the traditional Honda transaxle layout, the engine, which allows the Honda S2000 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6.0 seconds, will be coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission that boosts the car's performance while enhancing the driving pleasure, improves ride comfort and reduces fuel consumption and emissions. The comfort is further enhanced by a new multilink rear suspension system. The Honda S2000 is also equipped with Advanced VTEC valve-timing system which made its debut on the Civic Type-R and has been further honed to suit the typical driving conditions expected for this new Roadster. Brembo brakes featuring carbon-ceramic material discs as standard guarantee superbly efficient braking.

In addition to sporting the marque's classic styling cues, the cabin has also been beautifully trimmed using quality materials by Honda's own skilled artisans. New accessories and equipment, such as the seats, steering wheel, instrument panel and infotainment system, together with optimised aerodynamics ensure that this is a highly ergonomic and enjoyable car to drive regardless of whether the top is up or down.

The Honda S2000 is aimed at owners who desire a car which embodies everything the Honda badge represents in terms of sporty design and innovation, but also seek a car with greater versatility than ever. The car will be officially unveiled to the public at the Tokyo International Car Show. However, over the coming weeks, new photographs and further details about it will also be published.

I wish I could see pic of photoshopped car at work. The S2000 on the official Honda site looks pretty good though. Still $35,000 for a 6.0 sec 0-60 car, 2000 Camaro will do that for alot less back in it's day and hella cheaper now.

The S2K is not about straight line speed. It's meant for driving winding roads with the top down.

meh, 310 hp @ 8500rpms isn't enough to keep up these days. They REALLY should go with a 6 like everyone else is. I agree 110% that the S2000 isn't about straightline performance. Its a sports car. You drive it for fun with the top down. Think miata, boxster, old alfa romeos. These cars arn't fast. They are fun.

You are kidding right? 2000s are going for $15,000.

That's pretty dumb. Any hick can buy a big old V8 car and drive it fast. Even better than that 2000 camaro, you can pick up an old 5.0 mustang, put $1,000 under the hood and run 11s. But your still a hick in beat up old car. Who cares if it goes fast.

My favorite part about losing a race in the S2000 to POS fast cars (crxs with swaps, stangs with blowers etc) is when i get to smile my poop eating grin at them knowing i'm driving with the top down in great leather seats with a/c in my S2000, and they aren't.

Oh, i miss those days.

and what is the mid-front position where the engine is supposedly mounted

Mid- front means the engine is mounted behind the front wheel center line but in front of the driver.

I like that more than the current S2000, so it's A-Okay in my book.
