How fast have you gone in your ZX2?

Last friday I was on my way home from a day of fishing with a friend of mine. I was an on an open thruway with nobody in front of me and nobody behind me for the matter. It was a straight so I wanted to see what she could do, just passed a turn around where cops could sit and nothing on the radar so I get on it.

So the fastest I went in my Z which was last friday was 135mph. She still had about 5 maybe, maybe 10 more mph's in her. It started to slow down around 35 and it was night time so I had to shut down. I tried again to break 135 but on my attempt I missed 5th. Yes, I missed 5th. :eyes::judge: I just gave up at that point lol

The only thing I regret about going 135 is I forgot my Garmin Etrex Vista HCx was turned off. so it did not record my top speed. I did turn it on when I tried again but I missed 5th lolerskates. It says for max speed at this very moment 125. :(

My friend has a 356hp FD and we pretty much topped out at 165, acceleration just slowed way down after that and there wasn't enough straight away left. So whether he has the R1 or not I still don't see that speed happeneing. The speedo tops at 180 anyways.

Sorry Mech, but you're dead wrong. A lowered GTI gets to 100mph .6 seconds faster and to 130mph 7.1 seconds faster than a stock GTI. Lowering a car decreases drag and does NOT slow you down. There was a comparison test done.

How could lowering your car increase drag? Lolol. Your car doesn't gain down force due to being lowered, it gains a lower center of gravity thus reducing body roll, coupled with the fact that most lowering springs are stiffer anyways.

I went down to my friends cabin this weekend and hit 100 maybe 5 or 6 times on the way there and back. On the way there I took a really slight back to back turn at 105 and the car seemed to turn easier. Why is this? What an awesome topic. 142mph in my N/A ZX2 with stock cat in place, full interior, my 220lb fatass, another 200lb fatass passenger, and a sound system racing a 'Cougar S' in Pennsylvania 2 years ago, and it felt so smooth I was very impressed. Now my car is pretty much gutted from the driver seat back and I have yet to push it to it's limits. 130mph comes up easier with recent modifications so I would guess I can push 148ish now. On my 1988 Pony Escort 3 speed ATX I had my GPS tell me I can top out at 117mph redline limited (if I had more gear I could go faster). My 05 Mustang I hit the 155mph rev limiter, and my 05 Escape I have done 100mph easy but never pushed it futher.

All shops unless you balance it yourself will only round off wheel weights to .25oz, no one will want to take the time to cut up sticky weights into 8 thin pieces to get a perfect balance. And shops will only bring it to the 'green' section of the alignment screen which can be a 2 degree variance in camber and toe. No mechanic unless you do it yourself will get it perfect to where you want it.

Stock tires can handle at least 142mph (Eagle RS-A's), I've proven it. It may have a low speed rating and may not be recommended to go past it, but it can handle it.

my flat ground top speed jumped from 130 to 135ish after installing powder udp, aem odp, and new alt today.... i was proud but my buddies vr6 still beat me on top end like usual :( ....

i think this is about as high as il ever have it and don't plan on going that fast ever again in this car. We (me and vr6) got cut off by a mini van when we were traveling high 120s low 130s and litterally just missed death as we swayed(not slid) back and forth slowing down. The only other mods i might do performance wise are suspension/brakes/dif header so i doubt i would get enough gain to notice anyhow.

Assuming your MTX with no lsd... 14.6ish with decent tires at 95mph. With lsd 14.2ish. The body kit doesnt help your top end speed, you raised your drag coefficiency so I would guess you can go 142mph no more, if you kept it stock you could see 150mph. If you are ATX you are in the 15's somewhere lol. The more air that hits you (body kits), the slower you will be at high speeds. The less air that hits you (the sleek and sexy stock body), the faster you are at high speeds.

yeah....although I did save a few pounds with the kit :) FG hood and stuff...and the idiots took out that medal bar that runs along the front...so each day I pray I don't hit anything! :( I was hoping to be in the 14s somewhere. I guess one day when I go I'll see what she can do!

Your main power adder is your ported and polished head and those cams. I dont have a pnp head and I just have a hi-torque intake cam. With my PG I'm doing 14.7 at the track. Without it I was doing 15.2 all the time.

For me... It was last night. I got a call from my girlfriend, and she was in trouble.

1/2 hour ride, turned into aprox. 10 minutes, with it hovering right around 105 almost the entire way. It scared the shit out of me, but what scared me more was her being in a bad place at a bad time. Learned how to swing out the back end a little as well. Nothing major, but, I swear I didn't stop shaking until we both got home safe and sound.

topped mine at what I guess was about 135. with two other people in the car. my stock 120 speedo was pegged for a while and it was still accelerating. It's so funny to be racing some old guy in a stock mustang and watch him hit his governer.

I wouldn't believe it unless I saw a video of the car getting pulled over by a cop with his radar gun showing the speed. Until then, I don't see any zx2 hitting 160mph.

It is very possible to do that with a aerodynamic body kit to hold the car down and a motor that can rev 7250rpm in 5th gear.
