View Full Version : reverse gauge face squealing

Hey everyone,
Alright, so I just installed those "stealth reverse gauge faces" from zxtuner the other day (which look great by the way!:) ), and I was showing a friend of mine the gauges with the engine turned off, and I noticed that now when I have the lights on, there's this high pitched noise coming from the inverter or what not (the big black box). Does anybody else have this problem or know what this could be? Thanks
-Matt

Don't worry about it. That's normal.

Mine doesn't squeel. Mine makes a low, very low hum noise which is quite normal. No squeel, just the good ole' electric hum.
If it's squeeling, I'd keep beating on it till it stops. Make sure to yell at it a little or it'll take forever to get it to shut up.
I really hate squeelers....:cjw:

Mine are silent.
Do you have the wiring for them close to speaker wires or the stereo?

To me or him??
I have mine neatly secured under the dash with all the other electronic goodies.......you have to put your ear on it to hear the "electrical" hum.

Like I said, it's normal. I've had two different types of reverse glow gauges and both have made that same hum.

Mine make a noise too. I easily fixed that with loud music.

Uh oh....stop working? is that why i don't see everybody with them? so i probably shouldn't solder on those wires, huh? And are there better inverters that don't squeal? Or does anybody use anything to dampen to sound?

no they are all crap really...they are a 12 dollar part and last "relatively" long. it just kinda depends...and i would crimp it but if its already soldered dont worry till you have to take it apart. It may just quit making the noise tho

Is there any place I could find them besides ebay? Maybe autozone or home depot or something? And how long is "relatively" long? Few months? Few weeks?

I don't use mine anymore, but I think I had it for about 2 years and it still worked when I took my reverse glow gauges out. If you need any extras, I think I have an extra one (it's the one that you can't adjust brightness or color) and I've got the one I used but it's still in my car, I just haven't taken it out yet. (it's the type with a dimmer knob and blue/green switch).

I got a very high pitch noise as well. Only can hear it when stopped witht eh music off though. It is just one of those things that drive you nuts if you keep thinking bout it while it is happening. A loud exhaust ftw!

Ahh.....so there are different types of inverters I take it? What color are the gauges if you use the inverter you can't adjust with the gauges I have now (where they have the blue/green switch and dimmer)? Also, just wondering, why did you decide to take your gauges out?

I believe they are blue at full brightness if you can't adjust them.
I took mine out because after about a year, the top layer, which seems to be a anti-glare layer that sticks on, began to bubble and peel. I replaced that one with a different design. After about another year, that one did the same as well.

Ahh....that's unfortunate....hopefully I just get lucky then, huh? Hahahah.
