Possibly parting out the car in the next couple weeks.

I'm debating on whether or not to sell my zx2. Last week something blew in it and it's blowing oil hardcore. I'm pretty sure it's the headgasket but I really don't want to mess with it anymore.

There was a paperwork screw up and my name got mixed in with someone else's for my Kosovo deployment and now I'm no longer going. Asside from not being able to fix my car because I'm broke as shit, I don't even want to look at the car anymore.

I'll post pictures sometime soon, but here's a basic description of the car. Most of you that read the forum on a regular basis already know a bit about it.

Bright red 1998 Ford zx2, 140k on the chassis and original trans. New motor has about 1500 miles.

Some mods include,
Custom built turbo setup
Stock block with SVT internals and stock head
FR 42lb injectors
87mm MAF
Superchips 4 bank chip
CF invader hood
Subaru 2.5RS spoiler
17inch Kirkey intermediate road race seat
4 point Sparco cam lock harness
Detachable steering wheel
4 point roll cage
Gutted interior
21mm RSB
Ground Control coil over sleeves
S/R struts
Battery relocation
S/R speedo
Zxtuner short shifter
Leather shift boot
Dual 10' cooling fans
P/S and A/C delete
Remote start w/turbo timer

That's all I can think about off the top of my head. I'm trying to gather an interest of what people may think the car is worth. I'm going to start by asking $2500 OBO and the buyer would have to pick it up.

Any comments or question feel free to ask or tell.

I'm sorry to hear that. Lot of work put into it. Once this car is gone what next?

What where you using for a headgasket? Sounds strange to blow the gasket that early in it's life...

I've got my bike which will always be faster than the car so I can get my speed thrills out of that. I really need to get ahold of something dependable so I can get a steady job. I was working part time before the deployment and now I basically have no job. If I can't get rid of the car it's not a big deal, I paid it off ages ago, it just keeps costing me money and I can't afford it right now.

What where you using for a headgasket? Sounds strange to blow the gasket that early in it's life...That doesn't seem to be strange on a car with an aftermarket turbo setup. I was using a stock headgasket for the Focus, I'm pretty sure it was exactly the same as ours but I'm not for sure. I have yet to run a compression test to see what the deal is, it's probably a cheap fix but as stated in the post above I just can't afford to do anything with it.

What about the turbo set up? Would you ever part that out? I have no money right now so this is just curiosity I guess.

Considering that you'd have to weld plates to the chassis and if they were off by a little bit, it wouldn't fit, I would say no to parting ways with the turbo setup.

Well I know things would have to be welded.. I was going to copy your setup haha. Good luck with the sale though.

That's all I can think about off the top of my head. I'm trying to gather an interest of what people may think the car is worth. I'm going to start by asking $4000 OBO and the buyer would have to pick it up.

Are you sure you didn't blow a seal in the turbo?

Are you sure you didn't blow a seal in the turbo?

I don't see why that would cause my block to have blow by pressure. My dipstick came out of the tube and oil sprayed from there. My jerry rigged catch can had a rag in it acting as a filter and the pressure from the head blew it out of the can. I'm pretty sure I didn't blow the seal in the turbo.

I can't afford to fix the car so I haven't bothered looking at it, I don't want to contemplate how much it's going to cost to fix it this time. Even if it is just the headgasket. At this point I'd rather just get rid of it and buy something dependable.

if you dont have sufficent vaccum on the block, you'll get blow by on the piston rings, and then eventaully pressure build up of the block... and things go down from there. Pistons wear the wrong way, block starts leaking at gaskets, gaskets start going bye bye. .... etc

Buy something dependable? This car is dependable until you start modding it. I think that holds true for any car.

But, you should be able to find an engine for under $300 and they aren't that hard to put in if you have a flat concrete surface and an engine lift. Hell, if think you can't do it on your own I'll pick a weekend to drive down and help.

I'm getting ready to move out of state and I don't want to haul a sort of working car around with me. My credit sucks and I don't have a great job by any means so getting a new car is way out of the picture. I'm attempting to sell the car because I can't afford to fix it when I make less than a thousand a month.

If I can get rid of it then I'll have the funds to buy something reliable and that's what I need.

I've had the engine and tranny out of the car enough times to do it blindfolded so working on it isn't the problem. Finding a place to do it where I wouldn't get into trouble and having the money to buy replacement parts is the problem.

I'm just getting tired of dealing with it. If I had gone to Kosovo like I was supposed to none of this would be an issue because I'd have about $40k in the bank when I got home.

If I don't have any serious buyers by the end of the week I'm parting the car out. I need to buy something to get me where I need to go.

What's the lowest you would go on it?

jdrzx2

I figure I could part the car out without giving away the charge piping and exhuast and make between $2600-$2800, so $2500 is the lowest I will go for the whole thing.

I'm getting ready to move out of state for school and other work opportunities so I need a dependable car and not a project.
