this year the track I race at has made it mandatory that anyone with an assisted cam to unplug it. That means I have to unplug my vct. I have been trying to decide if I want to put in a vct delete with two new high rev cams and adjustable cam gears to make up for it, or just unplug the vct and buy a helical lsd and install that. Or maybe just a high rev cam and adjustable cam gear for the intake cam. If I do any cam work, I will also have the head shaved and port and polished. Cant affored to do both cams, gears and lsd. Might be able to squeeze in one cam and the lsd or just do both the cams. At my track (1/2 mile banked asphalt oval) I am still having trouble with handling coming out of the fourth turn with sever understeer, push. That is why I am really considering the lsd. Any suggestions or comments?

just unplug the VCT solenoid...you won't lose any power by doing so. the only thing VCT does on our car (without a Vit tune that explicitly uses VCT to an advantage) is reduce emissions...there's no power gain like there is with VTEC. and the racing you do might determine if you need more power, or an LSD. if you are having trouble putting the power down (like i did in fast transitions and high speed corners) then the LSD is the way to go. it made my car a totally new beast...i can't wait to take it to the track. if you would rather have power, and gains from an LSD would be minimal, go with the cams. you missed your chance to get a Vit tune...i'd say that and a Powder pulley are the best mods for your buck.

as for my winter building. i got Hawk blue race pads, Goodrich stainless lines, MFactory diff, and new axles...and they are all installed already! only thing i have left to do, is buy my Kumho V710 race tires, and a set of 15x7 ET30 BMW wheels wrapped in Falken Azenis RT-615's for next year's race season. the Falkens will be for the National Street Tire Challenge and i'll have them on for the Ohio meet (don't want 10 people to race my car on R comps...that would be EXPENSIVE!)

I already have a powder pulley and a pnp throttlebody. The keniman intake mod and disconected the knock sensor. I seem to have great power for the track, just my handling in the corners is poor. I pull on everyone on the straights. Lose a lot of time and speed coming out of our fourth turn. Real bad understeer and it takes forever it seems getting back in the throttle.

I have been collecting parts all winter for my build. 10.5:1 probes, eagle rods, ported head, high rev 2's. All I have left to do is get a couple parts to tie up some loose ends, my buddy is supposed to come get the block when he is done workin on this blown subi motor! It's all starting to fall together now.

Nice going guys! I've still got that JBA header to install and mount up the Falkens for race days, but I look forward to it...though it's going to be a total PITA!

sounds like you need the LSD, then. i had a bad understeering problem because i can't put the power down in the corners...but with this diff, i can literally come to a stop, turn the wheel full lock, and floor it and the sucker just HOOKS! on sharp turns now in 2nd gear, it digs in and pulls like a champ instead of slides to the outside.

OK, it is settled after talking to zxtwou2. As soon as I collect some of my sponsor money for next year it is a helical lsd going into the car. Here is looking forward to a kick ass racing season with some feature wins and a run for the championship!

No mods right now other than knocking out all the CAT honeycomb.

I wonder if milling the head for a compression bump would be a good idea?

Ed swears by milling the head. he said it was a night and day difference on his dirt car with a 0.070" shave.

you guys all taken off the AC unit on your car? i was lookin online at this serpentine belt diagram, what a mess?! my question is if you took it off, how do you get the belt from crankshaft to the power steering without it, wouldnt the tensioner get in the way?

Dont run the power steering. The pulley like to break off the car at high rpm's, and once you get over 30 mph u cant even tell if its on the car or not. Plus if u take it off u free up that much more horsepower. And lose like 25 lbs or so of dead weight.

so if you remove PS and AC, did you also take off and KEEP off the Idler pulley?

im porting and polishing a head to go with a dsi mani and tb. Ive put on a adj fidanza cam gear, i put on a 75mm mass air housing, and got a good cone filter to go with it. Im shortening the intake tube and running it out of the hood in a custom ram air getup. Im putting im 35 psi injectors and some hot 435 lift regrind cams to match. Brad just hooked me up with a msd coil and just landed a short shifter to boot. And in about a month ill be ready to dyno tune her in. Hoping for atleast 150 - 155 whp

There is a write up on here somewere of the ps and ac delete. you have to take the smooth pulley off the tensioner and put a ribbed one on its not that hard.

yes the 2 idler pullies arent needed they are dead weight. The tensioner pulley the altpulley the crank pulley and water pump pulley is all that should be left. I just used the smooth pulley on the tensioner it works fine
