well i installed the shifter. i have to get a new bolt for the bottom and it was a pain in the ass to remove, however... the shifter feels awesome. the short throw is exactly what i was looking for. there is one problem though, regardless of which gear i'm in, there is about 3-4 inches of play left or right.. this is obviously not normal.. i'm wondering what i can do to fix this, or what i did to cause this.. ?

so there is supposed to be like 4" of play to the left or right? that doesn't seem normal. not even the stock shifter did that. so basically i need the bushing for the bottom.

and i'm thinking buying this would also help me out:

however i have a new problem. i broke the bolt that connects the shift rod to the linkage. i am looking to get a new bolt but i don't have the old one (i cut it off and threw it out). does anyone know what size bolt i need to replace this?

bump for impatience. i really need this bolt today. i can't keep driving with this much slop in my tranny. hah, that sounds dirty.
and btw, the ford dealership doesn't have just the bolt, they sell the whole assembly for 300 bucks.

3/8" x 2"
3/8" x 2.5"
5/16" x 2"
5/16" x 2.5"
im hoping one one of these bolts will fit, i really need this ish fixed. if not i will be back in seek of answers! :alienanana:

this is the one i bought.
the metal piece around the shift ball is supposed to take the place of the two plastic rings on the stock shifter. is this correct?

nope u need to put those plastic pieces back in thats y ur shifter is sloppy.
I'm thinking you need new bushings...as do I...

so i need to put the two plastic rings around the shifter? i don't think the spring will fit on with the ring as well.
the spring fits very tight with just the shifter installed as shown in the picture.
can anyone verify if i need the plastic rings from the original shifter or not?

You don't need the plastic rings for that design. The bottom bolt is a special shoulder design so that it has a smooth surface to ride on. The threaded end is actually smaller then the rest of the bolt so finding a regular bolt to work without rigging something is not going to happen.

well what would you recommend?
the bolt i'm using now makes alot of noise, partially because the bushing is completey trashed, but also because the bolt has a little bit of room to move.
