Okay, I have two subs in the trunk with their own amp and a Pioneer H/U. The problem is my bass to the subs comes and goes. I also have a seperate amp for the highs and have not had a problem with them. It is not even an atucal on off issue with the bass, but it can also fade in and out (like normal bass then fading away to no bass then back, or soemtimes off then on ). I even get a weird high pitch squeeking noise from the subs when it does this. My thoughts have been bad preouts on the H/U, rca connections, or bad grounds. The problem also seems to be worse in the colder weather. I have not been able to check anything yet, but was hoping maybe someone with experience might have heard of this happening b4.

could be the pre outs but it could be that the amp is on its way out

could be a bad ground or weak electrical system

You are going to have to start from square one and research the problem.

I would start looking at all connections. Power, ground, ect, to include speaker wire in the box.
Try a different set of RCAs
Try a different amp
Try different Pre-outs on the back of the headunit

That should get you started.

definitely try another set of RCA's

RCA's seem they'd be the cause but you might also wanna check and make sure the amp isn't going into a protect mode. I have never experienced this problem with my subs but i had this exact problem with my amp going to my rear speakers. If i turned the volume past a certain level the amp would continue to fade in and out.

How would I go about trying different pre-outs? I thought they were built into the H/U?
Also, I don't "think" the amp is going into a safe mode as this problem also occures as soon as I turn the radio on at any volume. I appreciate the thoughts guys. As soon as I can work on it I will take all these ideas into account.

my suggestion is tear out all the amp wiring and start over. maybe u have something hooked up wrong, maybe the wire is bad . i would do that while inspecting each one

You stated that you had the RCAs ran to the SUB Pre-outs. Swith them to the REAR Pre-outs and see if it does the same thing.

Amp is an MTX class D. I have looked at it when the issue occures and it apprears to be getting power.

Ahh, excellent idea. Hopefully this weekend I will get to properly work on this. Thanks!

If your amps aren't getting air to cool them they might be over heating and shuttin down.
