As of 2001, some Ford vehicles have the ability to be downloaded post-accident when there is an airbag deployment. This is old news... (Black Box airbag...blahblahblah)

As of this year (2008) some Ford vehicles are now downloadable at the PCM. The vehicles include the 2003-2005 T-Bird, 2003-2008 Lincoln LS, 2004-2008 Ford F150, 2005-2007 Ford 500, 2004-2008 Ford F250, 2004-2008 Ford F250, 2004-2008 Ford F350, 2004-2008 Ford F450, 2004-2008 Ford F550, 2003-2008 Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Vic, 2004-2008 Lincoln Town Car, 2007 Expedition, 2007 Lincoln Navigator, 2007 Mercury Milan, 2007 Mercury Montego, Mercury Mounaineer.

In the past, the pre-deployment data was pretty limited; did not include much regarding vehicle speed or braking..etc.

Now with the PCM data available for download, you can retireve 12.5 to 25 seconds of pre-deployment data! This data includes throttle position, both brake switches (cruise-off and tail lamp activation), wheel speed, restraints...

What this means is that the police have the potential to retrieve the last 12.5 seconds worth of PCM data regarding what a driver may have been doing leading up to an accident. A scary thought for some...

The product typically used to download the information is:

Short version: Don't drive like an idiot out of hell. :)

Fords nice way of telling us to slow down, and quit driving like idiots. I kinda like the idea. Now if I am hit by an idiot I hope its one on the list.

I see its not on any of their fast cars.

What I specifically like is the fact that it is included on the Police Interceptor. Some agencies sent out a warning to their patrols in the summer of 07 regarding this issue.

This has become a problem for one officer who was hastily trying to make it back to base after shift, ran a red light and impacted an SUV carrying mother and child. The officer claimed he was doing the speed limit but did use his rooftop lights when approaching the intersection (although not attending to an emergency). Unfortunately he was actaully traveling at approximatly 120 mph some 10 seconds pre-crash; and approx. 55 mph at impact. At least he slowed to the speed limit at impact...

solution: SCT reflash. lmao. up yours, Ford.

You can't reflash a vehicle that you aren't allowed to touch. The vehicle will likely be impounded and downloaded within the first hour post-accident. If you do, you get slapped with spoliation...

He's saying use your SCT chip to possibly disable the info if it is gathered by the PCM. It's bullshit and had nothing to do with our ZX2's. Besides, you can go to Radio Shack and get the something for your kids cars to see how they've been driving....:monkeybutt:

Meh, doesn't bother me any..... in fact I like the idea.

I wish you could download about 5 min worth of data and that the info included all the car readings as well as g-force data.

Maybe it would help keep butt holes from driving like idiots on city/highway roads

It's not possible to disable this feature on the above listed vehicles. No, ZX2s are not included, but they do have a airbag control module which stores data. Change in velocity, the crash pulse data, and seat belt status are recorded on 2001 and 2002 models. After that you're in the clear.

And yes, you can monitor your children through an OBD-II plug-in monitoring device and even GPS. That's not the point... I was trying to give a little heads-up to anyone who may own these vehicles that if they are in an accident, fibing a little won't help you and will likely lead to your dis-credit once your vehicle is downloaded.

I like this idea. Doesn't take the driver's distractions, if any, into effect. I doubt you ever could either. No way to prove causation.

Then again, people are unfairly discriminated against every day, so who knows??

I wish the ZX2 was included. I'd rip my computer out and go to the police RIGHT now to show I was traveling the speed limit, and slowed normally till the ass in front of me locked his tires and I locked mine sliding into his ass.

Insurance is a $780 every 6 months... for the MINIMUM coverage I can get.

have a small plastic explosive on your pcm wired to your airbag

Don't have it nearly as bad. Thank your lucky stars.

I work in accident investigation and reconstruction. Trust me, there is much data interpretation when dealing with this kind of data. An example would be a car sliding sideways with the peddle down. The vehicles ground speed may be 30 mph but the wheel speed may be 55 mph. As far as distraction goes, you must evaluate the accident as a whole and then determine if the driver reacted to the percieved hazard (if there was any reaction at all) in a timely manner. Human perception/reaction times average to about 1.5 seconds. The rest is physics...

Just don't crash then, and you'll be alright! LoL. I wonder if it's just Ford doing this, or other car companies.
