View Full Version : WORST week of my LIFE.

Started earlier this week when I got a ticket for a left on red at a light that never changes for me. Then tonight on the way back to a friends house after hitting up the bars some, I got a DUI. I blew a .1 and the legal limit here is .08. I questioned myself before we even hit the road... And yea, should have taken the cab.

Stopped literally 15 feet before my friends driveway, in his pulloff because another friend was about to puke. 15-20 seconds later a cop rolls up then pulls in behind me and kicks the lights on cause he saw my buddy puking and other friend with him. Brought it on myself I guess but still kinda pissed at my buddy not know his limit at all (guess I need to check mine also now) but the passed3 times hes drank he gets all woozy and ends up loosing it.

Anyhow, got arrested, got blood taken at the hospital then released at ~3am to my parets... Talk about akward. I'll know the results next week, could get a fine of minimum of $1k and loose my license for 12-18+ months.

Both things you did were illegal. I can't say I've never drank and drove, but if you get caught that's your own fault. Your lucky your parents came to get you. My parents woulda left my ass there for awhile,

sorry about the lecture...it's just one of those things that pisses me off most in life. i know we all make bad choices....now do us proud and learn from it...don't do it again...and i don't think you are a horrible person :)

Damn, Josh. I'm not gonna tell you anything that you're already beating yourself up about. I've never been booked for DUI (knocks on wood), but I had a charge after my coma-accident due to a technicality in the laws. I received a notice of no accusation, so it's not on my record, but I can understand your frustration with the stigma of this on your record, alone, not to mention the disappointment and frustration you've caused your family and yourself. Live and learn, bro. Live and learn.

I saw a BAC meter key chain at PepBoys, and considered getting one, but am unsure of the accuracy. It'd be a nice tool for the weekend warrior if it's an accurate device tho.

can you get a lawyer? my wife had a dui last year, ended up taking some aa classes and other stuff for about 6 months. Also had a breathalyzer in her car that she would have to blow into constantly, but at least she was still driving (no license tho).
Wasn't cheap either, but at least she was still driving and no dui on her record. I think she ended up with a reckless driving. Good luck to you, man. We all learn from our own mistakes most of the time.

People who drive under the influence deserve to crash their fucking cars.

Seems like the worst week of your life is happening as a direct result of your shitty decisions. Make better ones.

Im not in here looking for sympathy, it was more of a rant. I'll probably use a lawyer a friend reccomended instead of the public defendant.

I know I screwed up, I even questioned myself prior to driving, but drove anyhow. Just find it ironic I was 15 feet from my destination already pulled over to let my buddy puke, and the cop rolled up.

for someone who is apparently in a worse situation, its a hell of a time to be talking down on others....if you get what im saying.

josh realizes what he did was wrong. i think its funny all you guys are talking down on him like it changes anything, he isnt dumb you guys. he clearly said he questioned doing it (right there would tell you that he knew it was wrong), but obviously he chose the wrong thing and now he has to pay the consequences.

Gmachine, get fucked. Seriously, dude, tim only knows this because we chatted over the chat board. I'm not about to play the pity card and start a thread about how I was kicked out without a job for pushing my parents' buttons for the final time. Drinking and driving=illegal activity. Left on Red=illegal. What I did was test the system...and now I'm dealing with the circumstances. I didn't do anything illegal, and yet, I'm in a worse position. I've dealt with that and i don't expect help or pity from anyone, it wouldn't serve any purpose if I did.

People should start by separating the two discussions: the left on red violation and the DUI. The first is a bad decision, but hardly deserving of any kind of abuse.

The second is a serious violation. Serious criticisms and don't do it gain are warranted. Howver, I don't know of anyone who learned from getting beat up by every person who thinks they deserve a free shot when someone is down.

I think he's in the process of learning from his mistakes. The rest of us should be supportive while not condoning his actions.

Next time if you see the cop, hopefully before he see's you shut the car off and pull the key out of the ignition immediately and they can't give you a DUI... pry have to come up with a clever excuse of what you are all doing in the car though, or just don't answer when he asks...

In wisconsin if you are IN your car and above the limit the keys can not be IN the car anywhere.. they will give you a dui, If a cop spots you coming from a party/bar etc and you are acting drunk and you are headed for your car.. dui.. Taking the keys out will do nothing.. You will still get charged.

I believe you have to have the keys in the car or in your possession in most states. If you don't have the keys you could use the argument you friends took the keys away so you couldn't drive drunk but were pissed that they had to hike home and left you in the car as a lesson. If you have the keys in your possession you're probably SOL. (I used to have a security container where I could hide the keys about 100 ft away from the car.)

If you need to sleep somewhere, you're probably better acting like a homeless person, instead of going back to the car. Look for a park bench, but just don't get beaten up and robbed.

If you and the car are on the side of the road, the engine is warm and one of you has the ignition key, more than likely someone is screwed. That is unless you have a sober designated driver and that person has the car keys.

Next time be careful and try to have contingencies covered.

99fordzx2

From a state (WA) cops mouth, they can take you in for a DUI even if your below the limit it is all on the cops perception. If your in the car with the keys anywhere in the car your pretty much going to jail.

We had a nice long talk with some state troopers when they did a presentation on base. They had 3 people get drunk and had them blow into the meter thingy on stage. It was pretty hilarious. This guy in my shop got a DUI on base because he was in his car and drunk.

I think anyone who thinks they can't take you to jail if your in your car when your drunk needs to put down the crack pipe.
