Well, after all the training, and days upon days watching product knowledge videos, and driving all the cars on the lot, I made my first sale saturday morning.

First you have to understand, finding a g5 right now is difficult. There is a strike, and we are missing a supplier for key parts to almost all of our vehicles.

Well, late thursday a truck arrived. On it was three g6 (v6) and a g5, a few other cars but I didn't really pay much mind.

G5 was blue, pretty well loaded. No sunroof, but power everything, XM, etc and so forth. So it got put out back in line to get detailed to be put out front.

Saturday around 10:30 an older couple comes in. Said they saw an add in a flyer for the g5 at 198 a month. Now, one thing to note is that those adds count in bonus cash, and incentives. And not everyone qualifies for them. They want to look at it, I grab the keys and go to get it.

The seats are still wrapped in plastic, still has the paper over some body panels, litterally not a mile on it.

Pull it up front, show it to them and take them on a ride.

The wife likes everything, but having so many buttons. I explain that in a week or two she would have no problem using the DIC, the radio, and steering wheel controls at the same time.

We go inside to crunch some numbers, I explain that the price will be higher, seeing as they don't qualify for all the incentives, and this wasn't base.

Get their trade evaluated, get all the paperwork started. It was going to be 239 a month. They wanted 200 or less a month. I'm having a fit because I might lose my sale over the price of a tank of gas a month.

So, I say that I might be able to do something, and what the most they wanted to pay was. He says 211 a month. That was what he was paying on his truck. His 03 f150. Right there, red flag goes up. He qualifies for $500 in a conquest incentive.

So I ask if I can run their credit, maybe see if we can get the interest rate lowered and get them a better payment.

Run it, spectacular credit. Drop it down a little, add on the 500 for conquest, and it got them to 219. I go back, tell them the good news. He still wants 211 a month. I explain that 8 dollars a month is nothing. It's two dollars a week, just some change each day.

He is unsure, the wife seems hopeful. I hold out my hand and say "We have a deal?" He shakes it, I take them to finance, call the boys from detail for a spot delivery, get it all taken care of, the glass etched, transfer the plates, grab their paperwork, manuals, and keys. And then I wait.

Ten minutes later they come out, smiles on their faces, I go over a few things with them, congratulate them, everyone is giving me thumbs up, and we get their car pulled up.

Mind you they hadn't seen it without the protective crap on it. They loved it even more.

They get in, I give them a five minute demonstration on all the controls, all the buttons, give them my cell number for if they need anything, and when they get in they notice the free stuff I put in for them. All smiles, they drove off.

So I tagged their trade in, took it back to the back, and got crituiqed on what I did well, and then I was a happy camper.

So, with less than one actual week of time on the sales floor, I sold my first car. I made $200 with about half an hour of actual work. And I sold a car that wasn't even in the system yet.

It is a rush, to find someone that is "just looking" and get them out in a new car. At a price they can afford as well.

And I have a guy who came in to test drive a vibe, said he would be in on saturday. It was sold on friday, he comes, sees that it is gone and is relieved. He wanted a different color. I tell him that I can find it in the color he wants, with the options he wants.

Spend some time talking with him, he brought his wife and kids with him. Son loved the gxp solstice we have. I told him that he could sit in it if he wanted. So as we are talking his son walks over and whispers to him. He says "No, you don't need to go for a ride in it. I tell him to hold on a second. Run in, grab my plate and keys for it. Walk out and tell him that if he wants, he can take his son for a ride. The son's eyes get wide, he keeps saying that he doesn't need to.

I tell him that it is no big deal, and it would only take a few minutes to put a smile on his son's face.

He gets in, I put the top down and show him everything. He takes off, and a few minutes later they get back.

The son is bouncing up and down saying how cool it is, and even the dad is smiling.

He asks to talk to a manager, I think I did something wrong, or I am going to lose the sale to "house".

I go get someone, and I get called off for more paperwork. Afterwards I say bye to the family and they leave.

Afterwards my manager pulls me off to the side. I'm waiting for the "here is what you did wrong" speech.

Instead he shows me a paper. The guy wrote out that when we got the vibe in the color he wanted, he would take that, and the black solstice.

They already figured out roughly what he would be spending, and how much it would cost him. Apparently he has a decent amount of money.

So, once I get a steel metallic blue vibe with the sun and sound, and prefered package, I will sell that, and a solstice gxp.

So, I am pretty fricken excited.

Much better then poppin out burgers, eh?

Much better, but to be honest, I didn't cook as often as I baby sat lol

Thanks for the kudos everyone.

Want to know what the best part is? Being able to go to BK for lunch in an expensive vert and go through drive through when you know the person who pissed you off most is in drive through.

It's 200 on the new cars. We don't do much of a markup on most of the models. So they give us minimum of 100 per car. Then I get a check from gm for 100 for selling it.

The used cars there is more money to be made, but I figure start where I can lol.

Most dealerships don't make a lot of money on the sale of new cars... Leasing is the best money maker (behind the garage). Financing a car isn't worth as much to them as a lease... and selling a car for cash is almost cut throat to them for what they get in profit.

Congrats. Shopping for cars lately, it sounds like you're the kind of salesman I'd like to run into. Some of them are douche bag; but a few i've found are quite nice. Congrats man!

Well random, if you have any questions or anything you can give me a call. I don't think you would want to drive clear out here to buy one from me. But I can give you some advice and things to watch out for.

Doesn't it feel great to sell your first! I worked for a Buick Pontiac GMC Dealership for a couple years but in my area it's hard to find buyers with workable credit so I moved on. My first sale was actually a used Dodge Dakota, white with a single cab. It sold for the full sticker price and from that sale alone i made 3k. That same day I sold a Pontiac Grand Prix GT, full pop I got 770 from it. I left just after the Pontiac G8 ride and drive. Those are fun!
