Ok so here is the deal... I just bought this and was running it only a few times. Ran good. Wish it was more adjustable.
Anyways here is the issue. Driving around today and the car kinda coughed one time. Then pull off of a stop sign and bam car dies. Pull off the road and shut the key off and started right back up. Worked fine after that for a few. Then it coughed again and died a few times. Usually just as simple as push in the clutch and let the engine die all the way and it would start back up. One time had to actually turn the key off. But still started right up. It shows p1000 and p1383 and 1381 I believe due to the VCT delete.
MTA8 computer. Has roughly 187k miles. Never had any issues. Set ECM back to stock and hasn't done it again. Does anyone have any idea why this is going on? Is the software bad?
Also can not get the x-2 to connect to my laptop. <<<Problem solved Now just the tune
PLEASE HELP!!!

If your laptop is vista it takes some tinkering, I can help you with that. p1000 is you reseting the ecu with the x2. Was this x2 programmed to your car with your specific mods? Or was it on another ecu with tunes all ready on it?

No vista poop. 2000 pro. Will not connect at all.
Bought it off someone but unsure if it the exact computer.
Quoted:
"it worked for my MTA7 and MTA8 i believe they were the tune file wasn't specific to that computer code according to the guy at sct but my zx2 was a late 98"
So if that helps...

Was the x2 unlocked when you got it? Make sure you downloaded all the drivers for the x2 and livelink.

yes it is unlocked. it worked fine with the tune for a day or so. Have livelink 4.0 and the newest drivers. tells me that it can't read device

Have you made sure it is using com6

it will not load to that. Automatically installs device to com3 and the drivers are not loading like they should. It is getting to make me mad.
Plus that still doesn't solve the issue with the car stalling out. I am so lost.

Well I think i am going to have to have someone do a tune for this thing. Not too sure what the deal is. Guy around me $125 dyno time and I don't wan't to pay that time on the dyno to tune my cams in and my base tune. Thats too much for me being no more than bolt ons and cam gears. But the guy at sct said I would likely have to have a custom tune done. Damn my luck.
190k on this engine I think I need to look at replacing it and tune it then.

$125. you should feel llucky that you get a tune, cam dial-in and dyno time for $125. thats cheap as hell.

That isn't bad at all actually. I only have bolt ons and my tune was very effective. Smoothed out my powerband and gave me peak gains of 8 whp. Having a tune done specifically for your car will also smooth it out a lot, and most likely solve the problem.

Sorry that is $125 an hour and it starts with hook up time. I have seen it cheaper. plus worried I am wasting my money due to the 190k miles that are on the engine.

well if i remember correctly i know the 98-99.5 had a hard time working right with SCT. i dont think they ever figured out why either.

Yep. 4 wire MAF's suck dick with SCT. Spend the $50 to convert to 6 wire and you should be golden.

thats SCT;s fault, the Lighning has a 4wire maf and it functions perfectly fine.

It isn't the MAF, it is the PCM. They are actually slower then the later models. I think SCT overwhelms it. I know they won't work with the 4-bank chip, it just randomly resets for no reason. I'm not sure how it acts with the Xcal, but I would imagine it is similar. I had this issue with my 98 PCM and that is why I swapped to a later model PCM.

Awesome. Seeing my fan is on a switch and my A/C is deleted, Makes that swap way easier. I had a feeling it may be something along that lines. I haven't really messed with it since that day, Been so busy with everything else.
Thanks all for the help. I will update here after I get a newer PCM installed.
Fast- Did you have to swap wires for the PCM harness at all? I hear you have to... Used to be a write up on it

Nope. Just get a 6 wire PCM, CCRM, and MAF and you're good to go.

The only wires you need to jack up are for the A/C pressure switch. If you don't use your A/C, then it won't matter.
