Hey Mike what size belt did you use for the AC/PS delete? Ed and I have been talking about doing it with this routing. Follow the green line.

Is that the way you did it?

without the smooth pully use a 47.5 inch , with it you need like a 50 inch

routing is exactly right... put smooth pulley in place of ribbed and on idler put ribbed...use a lock washer flattened out to space r ribbed iddler...i believe it was 47 3/4...i have pic of belt # i used... i will post...just got home from working on car...3 gears nothing but tire smoke...could be a winner lol

car together....rady for sat. night if it does not rain us out
s/rdirttrack
05-04-2008, 09:34 AM
well got her out last night....in hot laps all it would do was light up the front tire....it was dry already....took it back to the pit and unhooked front sway bar....in heat start in rear and end up third...still major traction prob. but better...ground tires for feature...started third and lead most of race...had to drive on throttle...every time you would try to go fast and hard it would light up the tires... was settling for 3rd when guy plows into me and knocks me to 5th on last corner...got a little hot on that one lol....did not have phantom in the tranny...ran back up tranny...will post pics later...all in all an ok night...when we get the traction thing solve i think she will be on top...changing tranny again this week....thinking i may break out the welder..
any time u up set the car and jump on throttle it is like being on ice...just light up the front tire...
s/rdirttrack
05-04-2008, 09:42 AM
well the yellow car (brother in law) won heat again....started seventh in feature and led a couple but ended up second.....the green one(nephew) took night of for his senior prom...sis drove it for me....it won its heat and ran top ten in feature...real proud of her....the red one(youngest nephew 14) ran pretty good...not sure what in heat....last lap of feature some asshole turns him and he flipped... landed on top of cat tires....second week of driving...they flipped him over and he fired her up and drove it back to pit...only crushed part of roof...not even a scratch on him....will post up pics of cars latter

05-10-2008, 11:05 PM
just got home....rain out after heats....car is awesome...second in heat to another zx2...car was going to be easy to win feature...by the way out of 3 heats a night and 3 nights of racing m y cars win 2 out5 of 3 heats a week...
TSmiley98
05-11-2008, 08:55 AM
we have been rained out for 4 weeks straight now, , I will get pics up of the car, why do you think it was spinning bad? too stiff?
s/rdirttrack
05-12-2008, 06:26 AM
no idea smiley...when weight would transfer to outside wheel it would spin inside....it would even do it when track was rough....just dis connecting sway bar after hot laps helped a ton...allowed wheels to operate separately...car was so torquey if u got rough with throttle on straight away it would spin tires...still have not put sway bar links back in..

well it was one heck of a week end....we raced friday night and i got a heat win and feature win...car was bad fast...no one even came close to me except my black and yellow 88j......sat night was a little different....had to run double features due to last week rain out...won the first feature fairly easily...a saturn was try to run me down...heat ran from dead last to 2nd...then comes the bad news.....the zx2 might be totaled....a gentleman(lol) put it into the concrete wall...i guess he did not like being passed on the outside....damn honda's (lol)....going to "drag" it onto the lift today and see how bad it is....lots of front end damage....going to spend some time on the frame rack if lucky....i will post pics of wins and smashed car soon...

S/R Dirtrack, Have a question for you. I race on an asphalt oval, not dirt. Speeds are around 85 or so on front and back stretch. I aw wicked tight on 3rd and 4th turn, has the highest banking. It jsut pushes like a snowplow up the track exiting turn 4 and head for the wall. I shredded my right front last weekend. All the way down to the cords, could hear the cap coming apart and hitting the wheel well. I am putting a taurus spring in right front today. Already had a spring rubber in right front. Think unhooking front swaybar would help any? Or do you have any other ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Got my ass handed to me by and escort GT on Saturday. Along with a nissan and a honda. Thanks.
Congrats on the wins and hope you can fix the ZX2.

Stiffen up the rear. Springs or sway bar. What camber on the front ? Negative on right, positive on left.
If you don't have a tire pyrometer, get one, and learn how to use it.
That stiffer front spring might increase your push.
ZX2Racer
05-20-2008, 12:01 PM
Have a 21 mm rear swaybar on already, eibach springs and just installed two spring rubbers in the back. Have as much camber in the front tires as i can get right now. Looking to get some offset wheels soon as I can afford them so I can put some more camber in the front. hoping the spring rubbers in the back will help with the push. Question is would unhooking the front swaybar help with the push?
iceracer
05-20-2008, 05:41 PM
It might but then again it could be worse since the car will lean more and you lose camber on the right front. Try in the warm ups/practice.
TSmiley98
05-20-2008, 06:22 PM
get some camber bolts or egg the hole to get more camber..
ZX2Racer
05-20-2008, 07:43 PM
i have the bottom strut bolts oblonged already, top of tire is hitting the strut perch if I go any higher.
TSmiley98
05-20-2008, 08:17 PM
next way is to look at your top strut mount, there is room to oval and slide the top of the strut, not alot but you should gain more moving teh top of the strut then at the spindle..
s/rdirttrack
05-20-2008, 10:26 PM
well boys the zx2 will ride again...just got home...frame staighter...runs under own power....big improvement...lol...stiffen back to take out push...put toe in rear...camber front tire(check after heat to see contact patch =equal across entire tire), same thing in pass. rear camber and read tire...u go left and tire pulls under...tire work....r u allowed to soften....i have heat and feature tires for dirt...the stiffer the rear the more twitchy car gets...fine line...be careful crossing it...i run 2 springs on front and rear pass. side...one set of eibachs and one set of afco's...afco inside of eibach...seems to work real well...the reason i disconnnected front bar is traction issues...all it wanted to do was spin tires...now with tranny welded need to hook back up and get a better set up...u usually pre load my bar with different size end links...remember u r only going left...this is a few things i could think of quick...also what tire psi r u running...they build quick and can cause serious pushing or loose condition...the more in pass. rear the loser ur car gets...hope this helps...if i can help or any of this helps u let me know...usually run 6-8 psi stagger in front and 10-12 psi in rear....i can usually build 7-10 on a good hard track in a ten to fifteen lap feature...u have to start low work hard then try and cool tires any chance u get...once front gets up in psi and tires hot not a lot u can do...well enough for now...good luck....
s/rdirttrack
05-20-2008, 10:29 PM
also i run 60 lbs heavier spring in the rear compared to front (afco's)
stut bar in front helps keep camber by not allowing strut tower to flex
also negative camber driver front...read tire...key is full contact patch in corner... can read by temps and tire wear
TSmiley98
05-20-2008, 10:32 PM
also take all of your tires out and at equal psi, measure them with a stagger tape, or cloth tape.. take the largest ones and air them up to 45-50 psi, sit them out in the sun on some nice hot asphalt, after some time set them back to regular air pressure, measure again,, take the largest and put it on the right front.. measure your other two small tires, put the smallest on the left front. any amount of stagger you can get in will help a ton.

i can already tell the coating of the engine internals helped a ton.. exhaust temps are higher meaning less internal heat... so if we lose a radiator we can get by without much engine damage , less heat = more power

I am running 23 pounds in the two front tires, 24 right rear and 22 left rear. I usually build at least 12-15 pounds in right front over 7-15 laps, whenever I get in to take pressures again. As far as the front swaybar links go, how big do you go on each size. I have stock for the right and have been thinking about going about an inch shorter on the left. I can usually get about 4-5 good handling laps in then then I started pushing exiting the corner. It is supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far this saturday when we race. Sun all day. going to make a few changes, but will wait on the swaybar until I hear what you do with the endlinks. Thanks.
s/rdirttrack
05-20-2008, 11:18 PM
1 1/4" -1 1/2 on sway bar bushing spread...split diff between 2 sides..allows bar to ride in neutral position...is rear toed and r u running that variable rate eibach spring on rear...if so to soft...allow to much transfer to rear....
ZX2Racer
05-20-2008, 11:22 PM
Rear is not toed yet, gonna work on that next. I am running the eibach in the rear, but now I have two spring rubbers in there to stiffen it up some. Which have a higher spring rate in the rear do you know? the eibach or s/r spring or the same?
TSmiley98
05-20-2008, 11:34 PM
what I did to stiffen the rear is to use a chunk of thin rubber wrap it around the strut bar, use a hose clamp and tighten on the rubber,, it is like a bump rubber, lets the strut travel about an inch, anything more it is solid..
Kilroy
05-21-2008, 10:11 AM
he is sad you took an s/r and are racing it like it should be.. S/R = regular escort zx2 with mods..
Not at all, i said poor s/r because it was another wrecked one and then i used a comma and said "but this thing rules", I don't see how that is being negative at all. It's much better than it sitting in a junkyard useless.
TSmiley98
05-21-2008, 12:34 PM
nobody said anything about being negative, just sad.. most peopel dont like to see s/r's get scrapped, this is a happy medium, it is still around and being used, rather than getting junked and parted..
s/rdirttrack
05-21-2008, 03:52 PM

the neoprene bushing that holds bar
TSmiley98
05-21-2008, 10:18 PM
i am talking about the strut rod, my bad I was having toruble thinking of it last night.. the part that travels up and down inside of the strut housing. I clamped it with a piece of rubber and a hose clamp. one inch above so it travels enough to move and pass tech, but will be solid with the car pushing on it..

After reading your thread on 4m sounds like it was a wild ride last weekend.
iceracer
05-22-2008, 07:25 AM
That is alot of temp build up. I get about 7 on a road course. On an oval it would most likely be more. The later push is due to the build up. Tire pressures have a spring rate of there own. Perhaps you could start with a little less pressure. What are your tire rules and what are you running ?
My front sway bar links are the stock ones that came on the car. The rear varies with which bar I am running.
s/rdirttrack
05-22-2008, 09:58 PM
just got car done...s/r rides again with blood in his eyes...have to work at fire dept. tom...will post up all the picks of wins and rebuild soon....
iceracer
05-23-2008, 09:13 AM
A little understood thing is that tires have a spring rate. It is mostly affected by air pressure. 1psi is equal to 40lb spring rate. This I got from Hoosier. That is why the NASCAR guys are constanly changing pressure.
Another thing that helps is shaving the tires to 4/32". Tire will run cooler and have better traction.
A bigger rear sway bar will help reduce roll and increase the roll couple ie; less push.
One thing to remember. A fwd car will push under power and will tend to get loose on closed throttle. Learning how to use these two facts helps much when running 10/10.
ZX2Racer
05-23-2008, 03:54 PM
I am starting the races with 23 pounds of pressure. Don't want to get much lower. Had my tires shaved for this race and will see how much that helps. The guy who shaves them runs in my class and he told me I would be really surprised at the difference. I already have a 21 mm swaybar in the back. I know about the car getting loose under closed. Learned that last year when I let off the gas quickly and got real loose. Just put it to the floor and it pulls you right out of the slide or spin. I changed my right front spring and put a few spring rubbers in right rear. See how much it changes things. Will probably post on Sunday in my thread. Feel like a thief here in this thread. Sorry bout that S/Rdirttrack.

not to bad of a night...ran from 5th to 1st in the heat....started 6th in feature...2nd place....lots and lots of lap traffic...just couldn't get the 1st place car reeled in...it is a saturn i have beat several times...if i could have got a yellow i believe i would have won...no yellow to regroup field...will post what other cars did later....

05-25-2008, 09:05 PM
well complete run down...track was pretty rough and dry slick...threatening rain so not much water put down...26 cars raced...i won first heat and my other 3 cars in 2nd heat...they ran 1,2,and4...6 car inversion in feature...i started 6th...finished 2nd, green car 4th, yellow 5th, red 10th...laps cars everywhere...winning car started on outside pull and got away...drove careful race after last week ends crash...kept hoping for a yellow to regroup field...never happened...10 laps green...car is running great....still trying to get pics together...

well a great weekend for the race team not so great for the zx2...66 and 88 won heats...66 ran awesome heat and got 2nd...now for the zx2...drew bad in heat and started rear again....ran up to 3rd...good inversion and started pole in feature....led prob 4 laps till it got yellowed...had a great race going...then it all went south...ended up 5th...got tires hot and slick...the biggest prob i had was under geared (tire size)... to fast for third and to slow for second...can not put bigger tire on due to strut....going to work on that this week...my yellow 88 won, 66 fourth, 99(me) 5th, and 55 10th....track was bad fast slick and rubbered from top

try -2 to -4 on the intake and between -6 and -8 on the exhaust, play in between those numbers and you should get what you are looking for..

Pots mod will be good for a bit, but the ECU will override it if you use it to much. You also need your fan on a switch, but thats a simple fix.
s/rdirttrack
06-03-2008, 06:20 PM
already have fan wired to switch...aways run...also switch and relay for alternator..
Looks like a shit load of fun. Haven't been to the track down here this year....but last I went we don't have any zx2's?.....:(

everything is up in the air right now.....we are all patiently waitting. he was using a semi-truck with a big water tanker behind it to water.....this is how the track has been waterd for year and years. but over the last 2 years they have increased the banking on it. it was a combination of that, going abit slower then usual, and a low tire on the trailer on the right side, he waters going the opposite way then what you race and when he got to turn 3, the trailer started sliding down and the low tire let the rim catch the dirt witch started the trailer rolling witch of course sent the truck over as well. it rolled 1 3/4 times. everything is up in the air right now as to what the track is going to do. we dont know if the season is done now or not or even if theres going to be a track left. there has already been rumbling made that there going to sell out to a resort thats next to them and if they do that, the speedway is gone for good. but most of this is just hear say.
