We finished 16th out of 121 cars.
We drove just under 1000 miles in 16 hours.

Congratulations, that's a good finish. IIRC that's quite a bit better than last time. Any damage to the car?

The 3-4 shifter fork is broken again.

Nothing else.

Have you figured out a way to get these cars to pull out of the corner better in 3rd gear?

trekkor

Sticky tires and rev to redline.

Damn weak shift fork.

The car really needs a gear between 2nd and 3rd to pull well out of tight corners. 3rd gear is a dog and 2nd just roast the tires. Can't go much softer than than the Azenis.

It would really nice to have a short 3-4-5.

I have that on my Porsche track car. It's amazing.

There's other cars that used the same transmission, but with different gearing, perhaps you could take a gearset from one of them? I can't think of them off the top of my head, but I know there's a bunch.

Yeah, I think if the gearing was different it could be a solid top 5 car.

Turns out the shifter console support rod fell apart.

I'll fix that for a dollar.

We're ready for the next race.

by the way, did just the tabs that hold the shifter onto the floor fall apart? if thats the case, I had that problem and I solved it by putting in two self tapping screws, about 3/4" long in either side. Its lasted through the entire race season so far.

Also, whats with all the spray paint on your car in the gallery?

trekkor

The problem with the shifter was the support rod that runs parallel to the shift rod itself.
One side of the molded bushing wore away, allowing the rod to slide off and dangle.
Without the support, the shifter console has quite a bit of movement when selecting gears.

Shifting becomes difficult due to the inability to achieve full throw.

The spray paint was part of a penalty.
The judges decided we needed to 're-theme' the car before we could go back on track.
We did a McDonalds ( McLemon ) theme in about 15 minutes.
Pretty fun!

Remember the shifter doesn't count on the $500 limit. We replaced all of the bushings and got a short throw shifter from zxtuner.com. It was way worth it.

The shifter absolutely counts towards the $500 total!!

Don't let the judges hear you talk like this...

take the stock shifter, cut it down some, weld it back together, and done. free short throw shifter.

also, seam welding the chassis isn't a bad idea either...

KT

4.2: Safety Equipment DOES NOT Count Toward $500 Total: Safety equipment described in Section 3 DOES NOT count toward the $500 total. "Safety" refers to things that can save the driver--not things that can save the car.
4.2.1: Beside the items and processes listed in Section 3, the following are considered safety-related and therefore exempt:
Wheels, tires, wheel bearings, and brake components
Exhaust systems downstream of the header/exhaust manifold (NOTE: Turbos and related components are NOT exempt from the $500 limit. Nice try.)
Windshields and wipers. (Stock windshields, true Lexan, or circle-track mesh are acceptable; non-Lexan plastic is not acceptable.)
Driver comfort & information (steering wheel, shifter, gauges, pedals, cool suits, vents, heaters, radio)

I know of ALOT of cars with short throw shifters

Finished 11th out of 138 (I think) at the LeMons race at MSR Houston in our ZX2. 7 seconds out of the top 10. The car was easily one of fastest cars on the track.

How does a shifter relate to driver comfort ? Easier shifting ?

When your out driving hard for an hour and a half to two hours it makes a huge difference. They really don't look at that stuff anyways especially on a ZX2.

We're taking a break until next season.

The schedule is not out yet and my Porsche is nearly ready for track duty again after this 17 month distraction.

The transmisson broke again.
I'll replace the three-four shifter fork this time.

That's right, 24 hours straight with no break!

The full 24 hour format is far superior. Your gonna have to add some auxilliary lighting. Make sure to mount them out of harms way. We put two Hella 500's on the bumper of our Ford Fiesta and I smashed them off at 9:30 PM going into the tire wall. I plan on putting a removable light bar on the hood this time.
