join the world record! :P

this new version of FF is just kick ass... Been using it since Beta 2 and it is just an amazing improvement over the FF2 which was already WAY better than the competition.

i mean im not knocking firefox, im just saying ie7 is a very capable browser, (esp based on avg user)

not to mention ive been using ie8 beta for a while now with NO problems

TTFOWIA
06-03-2008, 06:29 AM
If you compare it to FF2, of course IE7 is a "very capable browser". just go try FF3, you'll shit bricks. It's just lightyears away from IE7.

Soadrocksever

in what ways?(i dont mean for this to sound sarcastic)

the main thing I like about Firefox is the speed. I always notice a significant delay when navigating with IE.

I hope FF3 didn't bog itself down.

TTFOWIA
06-03-2008, 11:20 AM
mainly speed... memory use, bookmarks system, etc.

no way, FF3 is ULTRA fast compared to FF2

i have 11 sites that i frequent, that are in my links bar, that i use, and the favorites are in the list on the side, no diffrence there, and idk but ive never noticed any signifigance in speed, not enought to switch and have two applications that do the same thing, and if there are any sites that dont support firefox i dont have to open a new browser to view it.

not to mention i frequent a photography phorum, and when i open new tabs in firefox 2 when i control click the thumbnail, it opens the pic in a new tab, but when i release the control key it switchs to the new tab, and its set to not switch to the new tab when a new tab is opend, so i have no clue why it does that, and i looked in all the settings etc.

TTFOWIA
06-03-2008, 04:57 PM
whatever, its your choice. but IE doesnt respect the standards... thats why FF is not "supported" on some sites... because they only support IE.

i stopped using IE when FF came out. Everytime i have to use IE i cringe. FF is just so much more... reliable.

From a web designer's point of view, IE (All versions before IE8 ) are the enemy. With their lack of concern for web standards they create a HORRIBLE hassle for web designers trying to get their websites looking the same to all users. The fact that IE ships with a popular OS and is the default browser for them absolutely forces any web designer to code with it in mind. IE8 recognizes standards, yet still gives the users the options to turn these standards off. Get on key Microsoft... What's so wrong about following a couple rules that makes the jobs of thousands easier?

Also, FF3 benchmarks better (http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1470&page=2). =P

just out of curiosity, what standards are you talking about? and wasnt ie first(from what i know of)? so shouldnt what it uses be standard?

1. IE wasn't first.
2. http://www.w3.org/ <-- These guys are a consortium that handles web standards. Microsoft choices to ignore things and go about their own way even though the majority of the web agrees on set standards. Hence why developers hate IE.

I for one am a developer and Microsoft can kiss my ass most days. They really have a way of screwing up shit that should work just fine, of course then you code it for IE and nothing else works. :biggun:

Glow effects -n- such which only show up in IE are other forms and examples of how IE doesn't follow standards. =P

From a professional developer's standpoint, IE is like the kid in the class that causes everyone to miss out on recess. Because it's being selfish and not obeying the rules, all other browsers and developers have to suffer as well.

MS won't make IE for Linux as it would support a direct rival. Wine might help you out through.

IE6 gets a gold rating
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=469

While IE7 gets a garbage rating
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4195&iTestingId=4618

IE8 Beta 1 also gets a garbage rating
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=11110&iTestingId=21852

At least you can use IE6 (The last half-decent IE) =P

im going to download firefox 3 release candate 2(i think thast what its called?) when iget home, blah and if its as much better as yall say it is, then w00t, if not. oh well back to ie

but yeah ill at least give it another try, ive had 2 installed for a while, but dont use it often, mosly for a few select add on's that no one has developed for ie

TTFOWIA
06-06-2008, 02:33 PM
no doubt you will like FF3

Soadrocksever
06-09-2008, 09:52 PM
so ive been using it.

and i stand corrected looking like a dumbass because i have noticed major improvements in speed of browsing.

things i dont like, but are probably little bugs, and some settings that arent tweaked yet.

when i first open it, and hit a bookmark/link on the toolbar it fails to load it, as if i didnt click it. so i have to click it again.

some pages look a TAD funky, but nothing worth crying over.

i have the newest realplayer, and it has a plugin for ie that isnt supported by firefox that places a tab over a video in youtube or any flv embedded player or i could rightclick said video and realplayer would download it, but i think it gave me a message when i installed ff3 that it WOULD be supported, just not right now.

umm, i think thats was the only things i didnt like all else was thumbs up.

oh and well this is just current, but lack of ff3 addon's and themes but im sure thatl be fixed w/ the offical release.

TTFOWIA
06-10-2008, 06:48 AM
yeah... everything you said are just bugs that needs to be fixed. as for the "funky" look of some pages, just get the "IE TAB" extension. You'll be able to load some pages with the IE engine within FF. w00t

Yeah, i think there was what? 1.7 million pledges? And what about the ones that didn't pledge? That's a lot of people. I've got a feeling that their servers were not well enough prepared for this and they'll be down for quite awhile because of all the traffic. It's like a self-inflicted DoS attack.

The only thing I didn't like was that it took me to the "release candidate" page after installation. Other than that, I like it so far. Still got to check out all the new features/tweaks.

ilarson007

I also must say that I just updated and like it. The main reason I started using Firefox was because of the superb virus protection over IE, as well as popup blocking, and spyware stopping. (For example, I once loaded a page in both FF and IE and when I loaded it in IE I got a message from my virus program every 5 seconds saying it stopped a Trojan, and when I loaded it in FF [prior to loading in IE] these warnings never appeared, because FF stopped them before they were loaded to my comp). FF is safer and more secure than IE.

Seems alright to me. It looks more like the new version of IE, which kinda makes me mad. Oh well... At least it still has all the "file, edit" etc tabs. I know you can add them in on IE, but it's just not cool.
