so where are good places to mount amps? I need to be able to change my tire if i get a flat, so preferably not on the "floor" of the trunk. where do you guys mount your amps?

You can build boxes into the corners of the trunk.

I wanted to be able to reach my spare as well.

under seat, side of the trunk, back of rear seat always works well, anywhere really

well, i still need to be able to use my trunk, so i can't limit the space like that. i don't even have my permanent amp right now, so for now it will just be sitting there, not mounted at all.

under the seats is the best solution IMO if you want to keep the space clear in the trunk (just like I do)

the back of the back seat uses little room also under the rear deck between the speakers does not use much room

how do you get the wires under the seats while keeping them hidden? and how do you keep the amp cool, especially with that lovely air vent right there (heat in the winter)

SimpleAudio
04-18-2008, 10:52 AM
run the wires under the carpet...in the zx2 there are slits in the carpet under each seat where you can pull the wires through or you can cut some if need be. as for keeping the amp cool it should be fine...in the winter the amp will be cold prior to the heat blowing on it and the vent should not blow hot enough air to hurt the amp. if you are still worried about it you can simple use cardboard or something to redirect the air to the rear

ok, here's the million dollar question: where is a good place to ground the amp in the trunk? It all looks plastic to me...

SimpleAudio

under the carpet/plastic...its metal...

amp on box is not always a good idea...electronics do not like vibrations

Like most said...back of the seat is the best. Can't even really tell its there.

why bother with hot air when the car never sees winter :P

Ill stick with my idea of underneath the seats

ilarson007

never see winter? ha ha... well i grounded it to one of the bolts hiding behind the right side carpet piece. kind of a lot of work to gound one wire, but o well. it works :). and my sub is underpowered, so i need my good amp back, lol

keep it from under the seat.. if it rains and you have someone riding with you and they are super wet or muddy think of what it could do

may I remind you that there is carpet in the car... a person's feet will never be wet enough to soak the carpet till it reaches the amp... anyways, I will show pics when it will be done.

there is always that possibility. i use to play in the rain with friend all the time and my floor would all be soaked. thats what happens when paint ball takes your life over lol. thank god im out of that

I grounded mine under the bracket for the rear seat, the hinge that makes the seat fold down.

Took it down to bare metal on the trunk floor and the underside of bracket. Holds well, works well and is a nice location for seat-mounted amps (i have 2).

I think I'm going to mount it upside down on the rear deck between the speakers. Unless this doesn't work? I just don't want it to be visible without trying to find it, ya know?

I mounted mine on the back of the rear passenger side seat.

Mine has one mounted under the seat (stock-"premium" 'cough' 'cough' sound amplifier ). Do they all come that way, and if so couldn't you just re-use the wiring/mounts in some way?

No all ZX2s don't come with Premium Sound, but all of them that do have the amp under the seat.

You can't use the factory wiring without cutting off the harnesses, then you still may have issues because the factory amp is TINY compared to aftermarket ones and you may have space/overheating issues. You'd still want to run a power wire with fuse to the battery and ground it.

FAIL. no premium sound = no amp.

I personally installed on the back of my rear seats. Real nice too if you need to get to the amp for anything. Just flip the seat down and there ya go!

depends on the size of the amps, and what they're going to be used for...

under the front seats, or back of the rear seats... I'll post pics when i get home from the gym

I'm back! with pics =] Enjoy, but excuse the dirty car, i live out of it =]

Under the seat, a Cadence UltraDrive Z600 500W multi-channel amp
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e252/TruRomeo4Juliet/Car%20Stuff/DSC00675.jpg

Attached to the rear seats, a Cadence UltraDrive Z1500CF 1500W Mono Amp, and a Power Acoustik 6-Farad cap (still mounted, but no longer connected, cuz it doesn't work no mo! >.< ) ignore the cables behind them, i didn't want to cut them cuz I wasn't planning on keeping the car for as long as I did, and that's a 0-gauge kit, so i didn't feel like buying new cables, either
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e252/TruRomeo4Juliet/Car%20Stuff/DSC00674.jpg

And with 1 seat up, this is what it looks like
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e252/TruRomeo4Juliet/Car%20Stuff/DSC00676.jpg

This is how you do cables sexily =]
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e252/TruRomeo4Juliet/Car%20Stuff/DSC00677.jpg

This is a bit more ugly, but how I did cables (too many fucking cables! >.< )
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e252/TruRomeo4Juliet/Car%20Stuff/DSC00678.jpg

Acrylic under the capacitor, because the feet broke on them, so I used epoxy to bond the casing to an acylic sheet, and then screwed the sheet into the back of the seat ;] it's called 'n.... riggin' (cuz I'm black, foo, and that's how we roll in the ghetto)

Now you've seen two of the most popular choices for amp location =]

I mounted mine under the back speaker shelf one time.. on my 1st zx2 .. similar to the way the stock cd changer goes.. kept the floor and sides free
