I took the blue-mobile that I bought for my niece to the track last night. My last run I decide to no-lift shift it. Besides, I've got a couple spare trannys. Anyway, I get a high 2.3 60' and pull 16.0 at 85 mph in the 1/4 mile. I don't have the slip, my niece kept it. If she hasn't lost it I'll post it up. She was in the car with me the whole night and weighs about 100 pounds so I could have pulled a 15.9 if I made her wait.... Anyway, the car has 160,000 on it, no options besides power mirrors and rear defrost, knock sensor unplugged, and the air box cut. I think under the right conditions, read lower sea-level, I can get the 15.7 out of it.

Well with the air box cut and the knock unplugged it's not stock. Good times though! I ran a 16.2 w/ 2.58 60ft with the muffler removed, spec stage I clutch and es inserts. No doubt if I would have cut a 2.3 60ft I could have knocked sub 16 seconds off as well. Good Run man!

Actually, if you take your car into Ford for service they disable the knock sensor so the only mod I have is a lower cut air box which might add 1 whp. So, I would still say it is stock.

Alright so get technical with me... Nice run either way most people can't even drive a stock S/R close to a 16 flat.

I call bull shit. My z has bolt ons and got 16.7 @85.6 MPH. Except for my stock exhaust, after cat, anyways.

he has no reason to lie.

edit: the knock sensor pulls alot of timing as well, even under normal conditions so that alone helps alot.

I can make it worse. I drove it again at our meet and got it down to 15.8 at 86 mph.

Brian drove it and couldn't do better than 16.2 with it. The driver mod helps a lot.

If you got 16.7 with bolt-on's then something is wrong with the car or you just really suck at driving. Drag racing in 90 degree temps won't help you either.

The car is stock with exception of the mods listed. Brian did put my urethane filled mounts in before we went when I got the 15.8 but I don't think that helped that much. I think I could get a 15.7 out of it if Brian didn't hog the car every time we go to the track.

Mike you had two people in the car every time you ran. And it was very hot at the track.

Brad, what was the ambient temp at the track when you ran these times?

I think it was in the 70's that night.

Oh ok that might explain things somewhat. I've been running in the 90s. I wonder just how much that would affect times.

My dads Z has 'bolt ons' and a sct base tune and I ran a 16.2 without being to hard on the car at Brads meet last year in Ohio. You just suck at driving. See what my 'bolt on' zx2 with a worked head and stock bottom runs soon.

I did and it was. I did get wheel hop and spin. I had a good reaction time. I do have the knock mod, too. And I know how to drive. Driver mod not needed. LOL I fuss if the conditions were right, I could've pulled mid 15s with my mods that are listed. Next time.

You know how to drive it? Do you no lift shift and get the next gear before the rev limiter can bounce more than twice? That how I get 15's out of a stock ZX2.

We're supposed to shift at 6k, right? Doug told me that shifting at 6k drops back into the power band. Is this correct?

fusew3rks

Or is it at 5.5k?

Neither, 6,500+. To early drops you to low. Same launch rpm and shifting at redline instead of just over 6k shaved near .4 sec off between 3 runs.

Mike, I said that shifting before 6k drops you lower than the powerband. I also said if you shift between 6500 & 7000 it will put you back where you want to be.

The 15.8 and 15.9 run was done with a 2.3 60' and shifting at 7000 for each gear, do not shift to 4th. If i remember, I'll mount the camera in the car so you can see just how fast I'm shifting to pull this time in a stock ZX2. If I could get my turbo car to shift this fast I'll easily be in the mid 13's.

Thanks for the info. But what do you mean, don't shift into 4th?

You should finish the run in 3rd gear.
