Someones got some serious skills... The ironic thing is that if he was getting paid for this, he could buy a hummer outright with the money he'd earn from making it from scratch lol.

quoted from h150 in that topic:

"First
Why pay somebody to do what I can do myself for a fraction of the price?
I have $1500 in it now and that include 2 donor truck and the hummer hood
I figure with motor, transmission rebuilt, wheel and tire my total cost will be about $15000
There nothing complicated in this built, all panel are flat
As far a building something else, well I wanted a hummer for a long time but
Just cant affords one so, best thing for me was to build one"

And how many man hours to fabricate the body? Money to buy parts is always cheaper than labor ;) 15000 in parts most likely = 3-4x that in labor to put it together.

I'm not dissing him. He does tremendous work. But if he was getting paid by someone to fabricate from scratch, it would most likely cost around the same as it would to purchase one.

hand built vs production line . Always hand built.

Another point that was attempted to be argued.

If you're having fun doing it, your labor has no dollar value. His labor costs nothing.

That I won't disagree with. (because I have the same attitude towards any labor intensive work I have done / will do on my '66 mustang)

But if someone else were to ask him to rebuild this for them (provided he'd accept) you can bet the overall cost with that much fab work would be near to or more than the cost of a hummer.

It would definitely be more.
