so i droped the steering rack a few weeks ago and when doing that, dissconnected the steering lines. steering fluid poured out all over. my question is, now that its all back together, i have quite a bit of slop in the wheel expecially at highway speeds. anyone have any idea y this might be or better yet how to get rid of the slop... i absolutly hate it.

thanks
Matt

Did you replace anything?
Same parts ?
Check the steering shaft/rack union clamp.
The rack may be loose in it's bushings.
Tie rod ends [inner OR outer].

tie rods were replaced and it seems as though everything is tight. its only loose in the center when the car is going straight

^ would that be necessary and/or could you even do that?

steering fluid is full, i did not bleed it. i was told that you did not need to, that it would force all the air out itself. i thought it might be that myself. if i do have to bleed it, how would i do that?

thanks

Jack the front of the car up and turn the wheels back and forth with the engine running.
But why are you keeping it a secret what parts were changed or not?????

i dropped the steering rack when i pulled my transmission.... big mistake, the only part that was changed was an inner tie rod end on the drivers side

With the car on the ground, have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth about 2 inches rapidly while you look underneath. A loose tie rod or part will be evident.

hmm with the car on the ground i can wiggle the wheel back and forth 2 inches rapidly and the tires will move. this is strange because under normal driving speed it really feels like there is a dead spot, but on the ground the tires move

Try one inch of wiggulation.

lol with one inch of wiggulation or even a half inch for that matter, i can see the wheels moving. its only while driving that it feels loose
