What do you mean by wipe out? Do you want to format the hard drive or what? If its just to clear history and stuff I would suggest CCleaner

No, I mean wipe out, as in erase\destroy so they have to get a new HD to replace this one or start over from the beginning. Remember, I don't have Admin. access to actually download any programs. Anyone have a virus you could send me through e-mail??
If the hard drive goes down, I basically get a couple of free days paid until they fix my machine. I still have to show up to work....but their won't be any work to do.
Suggestions??

Open the case, find the Hard Drive. There will be a very small hole on the top of the hard drive with a big warning that says "Do not cover" Fill it in with glue or something. That will make a vacuum and will not let the read/write head float above the disk and it will leave Some very ugly unfixable scratches on your hard disk... lol

I was thinking more of a virus vs. me having to open the case and do something. Good information to know though. If I had an Admin. password, I'd just reformat the damn thing and call it a day.
I figured you I.T. guys could come up with more than this.

Ah, formatting would be easy. All you need to do is bring a boot up windows disk and put it in and restart the computer. Then you get to set the admin password. The only problem with that is you have re install all the programs again and set it up to the network.
Another thing you could do is get a linux live CD and just boot to that. That doesn't Install anything on the hard drive it just runs off the disk and you have your own clean limitless operating system.
If you have the XP(or vista) key for the machine you are using. It is usually on a sticker on the side or bottom of the case. I may be able to get you the Disk to do a clean reformat.

Memory won't help my 1.8ghz Sempron and 7600GT run Supreme Commander or the newest games (which is the only reason I'd upgrade).
Why does it seem like as computers get older that they become slower. I just erased so much stuff on my computer and its still slow and studders all the time. With its a 2.8ghz with only 256 megabytes of ram. I have erased and done a disk cleanup. Also did a defragment on the computer too. Any other suggestions?

Yeah, Like spyware said, You might want to invest a few bucks in more ram. Windows Xp pretty much requires 512MB of ram to run at potential. As for getting slower as they get older. There are lots of things like temp files and the fragmenting of the HDD along with additional startup programs and process that run in the background from installing things as you use the computer. It looks like you did a good job by cleaning out crap and then Defraging. The next thing I suggest is msconfig.
Click Start and then go to Run. Type "msconfig" in the box, with out the quotes of course, when the window comes up click the Services tab at the top. Now at the bottom there is a box that says hide Microsoft services, click that. This should hide all or most of the needed services. Now you can go through and uncheck all the processes that you would rarely use or never use, or even things that you don't need running till you want to use them. I uncheck things like Ipod service or Steam clients.... What you are doing is stopping unneeded process from running in the background. After that you click on the start up tab. Uncheck things like you Aim or MSN messenger that always start when the computer starts. Things like Quicktime or Itunes. any thing that is from an unknown manufacture. When you are done click ok and restart.

Laptops are hard to "upgrade" You cant really go out and change a CPU or a Motherboard on them. About the only thing you can do is Buy additional memory and or a larger hard drive or battery. If you have another computer you could do something crazy and try to mod it into your Z.

as for questions, i have a laptop that i got from a friend that has a boot password, its not a bios password, or its not like the nomral ones ive seen, it shuts down the computer after three attempts.
is there any way to get around it? i know there are those default passwords, but there are so many diff ones, and im not even sure its a default bios lock.
i know on desktops ther eis a jumper that you can reset to clear the password, but no clue for a laptop... i tried taking the case apart to find the cmos battery but i couldnt get it open.

Second. Is there any way you can get to boot to removable disk?

Try downloading this http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=6255&type=bios and put it onto a floppy drive. Boot the computer up to the drive and flash bios from the floppy. Let me know how that works.

I use Avg free. Spybot S&D along with Adaware work wonders for free scanning. As long as you right click and scan every file you down load before you open it you should be fine.
Ram (Aka memory) works like this
There is and DDR, which in short stands for double data rate.
Now days there are also DDR2 and DDR3 which are basically Beefed up versions of DDR.
DDR/DDR2 are the most common. They are labeled with a number after DDR to tell the type of it. ea: DDR 333 < DDR 400 and DDR2 667 < DDR2 800
the higher number the better.
PC is a Rating used to determine the speed of the ram.
DDR 400 is labled PC-3200
DDR2 800 is labled PC2-6400
You can tell what type of ram it is by how many pins it has.
DDR has 184 pins
DDR2 has 240 pins
Lastly "Dimm" stands for the actual stick of ram its self.
"That is a DDR 400 Dimm."
"That is a DDR 400 Stick of RAM"
DIMM stands for Dual Inline Memory Module.

Loon, this is the easy way, as long as the computer still has a floppy disk drive.
Go to www.bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com) and make a windows boot disk from there.
Go to work with disk in hand.
Restart the computer with the floppy in the computer. Unless these dudes are real smart, it should boot.
When it gets to a prompt, type format c: and hit enter (turn off your monitor for a little while, so no onez sees).
When its done, eject the floppy, and reboot.
Go home for a few days.
If you don't have a floppy drive, but do have a CD ROM drive, I can give ya something else that will work.
If all else fails, I can use the Force.

edit: to answer the wiping question...
n00bs. magnet is most likely not gonna work.
formatting will NOT wipe the drive. I would be able to recover whole files or at least filenames and/or traces of the files. What you need to do is low level format your hard drive 5-6 times (depending on the size of the drive, it may take 5hours each time you do it) and then reinstall windows.

depending on if you have a custom pc or not, if its a store or online ordered from a brand like hp, compaq, gateway, dell etc etc you can look up product specifications and it will say max supported ram.
it will say how much and what speed.
if its a custom built computer youd have to check the specs that your motherboard allows, via the manual or spec sheet, or at the mobo's manufactor website, or where you bought it from.
oh an for the record, your ram will only be as fast as its weakest link, so if you have a 1gb dimm at pc3200 and another 1gb dimm at pc 2700 you will only be able to reap the benifits of as if having two 2700 dimms.
also to shadow, perhaps you could shed some light on dual channel memory? isnt that a type where you have to have two of the same size DIMMs? like to have 4gb of ram you could only have a pair of 2gb's?

he didn't really mean wipe. No tech in their right mind is going waste their time to try to recover stuff. They'll just set it up again.

Yes you have to have the same DDR or DDR2 for the Pins. But as of the PC rating. That depends on your motherboard. Most of the time you just get the same PC rating that your current ram is except you get larger sticks. Like replacing four 128 meg dimms with one 512 dimm and then that leaves more spaces open for more dimms to be added.
Now if you are asking if you can mix PC 3200 with PC 2700. As long as your board supports both types you will be fine running them together.
Most boards will support a few different speeds of RAM and in most cases you can support any ram lower PC rating then the MAX the board can handle .
Also in most cases if you install a higher PC rating then the board can support, it will down clock it to the lower speed.
Where is something called Dual Channel Ram. This takes the 1st and 3rd and if the same kind of ram is installed it runs faster. The same thing with the 2nd and 4th. The slots will usually be color coded the same as the matching one.

What do you mean by huge. Some websites are designed for smaller monitors so they are at a different resolution. Other then that it sounds like either a browser problem or a Driver problem. Do you use internet IE or Firefox and do you lave the latest drivers for your video card?
