Enormous Confederate flag in Florida

I don't see this celebrating Obama's win in the Democratic primary or any kind of support for HRC.

From a personal standpoint I see it as a civil protest, protected by the constitution, that will get people talking even if it offends some. I may not agree with what the flag stands for, but I do support the right of those who fly the flag to make a controversial statement.

The flag does not absolutely mean racism. There are meanings other than the one used by morons who also think the KKK would be a fun club to join.

When has Huckabee ever made a racist statement anyways? I never heard one. (I don't like the guy but there's no reason to make things up)

I thought there was a law in Florida, about a flag pole structure cannot be over 100 foot tall or something like that. I've heard of the law somewhere.

heh, its not to far from me. Just across the Bay. The guy went through all the channels to do everything legally and correctly. He retains the right to fly it. I look at something like that and don't even think about it, i just move on. If people continue to recognize racism, it will continue to exist.

Every time a black man walks through the door and feels that eyes are on him because he's black, he's as insecure in his color as those who might be looking at him with racist eyes.

I think white supremacists and racists fly the Confederate Flag because they want to let the population know that they are still contingent, that they still matter. I think many of these people feel as though they are the "true Americans" and that all these "fake Americans" are stealing America from them. It's insecurity in themselves.

Someone should fly a giant confederate flag across the street from this guy, with the words "YOU LOST, REDNECKS. GET OVER IT" spray-painted in big black letters over it.

So you think that this is being flown to represent racism and not sothern heritage? Personally I don't car either way, I was born in Ohio and have dealt with this red neck culture for a long time but I don't see this flag as a message of hate. I mean there are always underlying messages but I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. Whatever this mans intentions were for hanging this flag he has a right. Even if they are for the wrong reasons.

Didn't you guys watch that video? People are too ignorant. They see a confederate flag and think the South, racism, and KKK. Well its not all that. Its about heritage. Plain and simple. People in the North fly their US flag and nobody says anything or makes a big deal. It should be the same for the confederate flag.
