My friend found this today when he was looking around for parts for his Linux MCE Pc he is making. My other friend has a tib and is thinking about doing something like that.

I was wondering if anyone has made a DIY type guide for a PC for our cars.
Anyone even seen one in a Z?

I have just about all the parts, save the touch screen, lying around my house.

This almost went in my Z, then I got a different car and sold it. Setup included a mini ITX case with the auto power supply 1GHz VIA EPIA and 512MB RAM.

I have been thinking about separating the screen and the rest of my laptop, finding a way to glass the screen into the dash in a convenient spot, then make the keyboard fold down under the steering wheel using the original hinges. Then going into the HU, and having one of those USB things that goes into the PCM.

Seriously Who needs a case? lol I've had a server running sprawled out over the floor in my basement for like a year or so. I even picked up the pieces one at a time when I needed to vacuum under them. lol

I don't know if he still has it or not. He intended to also use it to tune a megasquirt.

The server I set up this year had the CD drive go out.. put a new one in but it didn't fit in the case. One of those mini things. It sat there running all year with the case open and the cd drive sitting outside of it.

I want one for SCT tuning in the car. I've been looking into it also...

And cases help with shock (vibration)

For now, I use my laptop tray and it's perfect... I plug the SCT in and voila!

I'm just messing with you. I do have a computer that is sprawled across my floor but it is an old computer that I do a little bit of FTP on. I know that in a professional situation, it would be different. But, for my own personal use. I am the one who is at blame if something goes wrong with it. And for something like this DIY I'm looking at it as doing it the cheapest way possible. As I can't and don't want to pay much money.

Oh, and I am an IT

I had a carputer setup in my old escort lx. Just a mini ATX board, P4, USB roll up keyboard, and touch screen monitor molded into the center console. I loved it. I was running XP with centrafuse XLE, and had a wireless card so I could wi-fi all my files to my HDD from the driveway. I just built a have case out of MDF and mounted it in the spare housing. Kept it nice and cool, never had any problems with it

Pic I took before I got the touch screen, this was just a standard Clarion monitor:
