An airman in my shop, his g/f, and the wife of another airman in my shop were in a wreck yesterday while then wife was driving her older Chevy Lumina. A large pick up with a lift kit and huge added bumper (those big ones cops use to ram cars) plowed into the rear of the car. It is assumed that he was racing his brother who was driving a Corvette. The entire back end of the car is compacted into the front. The driver has minor fractures in her wrist and dings and aches all over. The front passenger (the g/f) has a large laceration on her shoulder among other bruises ans such all over. The airman was in the back seat and was pinned against the driver's seat by the trunk, and the jaws of life had to be used on the door and drivers seat to get him out. He has some broken ribs and has bruising on his brain among other things. He is currently in the ER (still) after being released from the ICU. The truck only suffered a broken grill.
I don't have any pictures available yet but I have seen one and it is bad. Everyone is extremely thankful that their 4 month old baby was at his grandmothers at the time. So everyone stop being stupid out on the road, and get rid of that stupid lifted truck.

Yikes!
Reminds me of the time my old neighbor was rear ended by an off duty cop doing about 25mph over the speed limit. She was at a dead stop and her 626 looked like a crumpled beer can.
The worst part was there weren't even any skid marks, the cop never slammed on his brakes.
She survived, but was out of work for like 6 months.

My wife and I were rearended in her 04' Tauras by a 06' Malibu. Our rear end crumpled. The trunk curshed into half it's size. The motorist who hit us did it at approx 40MPH while we were stopped at a red light. He never touched the brakes either.....Needless to say, my wife now drives a new 07' Tauras and the rest of the money from the accident bought my ZX2. :upsidenana:

Damn dude... That sucks. I'm not completely against racing, but doing it during the day when there is traffic and stuff... Not cool. Do it at night, in areas where there is no traffic.

When it is all over I hope everyone recovers without permanent disabilities.
Lifted vehicles often are outside of bumper height requirements and do considerably more damage to vehicles they hit than if at required bumper height. this is probably going to become a naightmare for the owner of the truck and their insurance company, assuming he has adequate insurance.
Too many lifted truck owners don't think about consequences of an accident an argue bumpers spoil the lines of their lifted trucks.
Street racing is just stupid. Hit and run video (http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/06/05/ignored.hitrun.ap/index.html). The drivers who hit the guy in the video ran a red lighht and supposedly were street racing.
a) I hope your friends all recover and b) I hope the driver of the truck gets taken to the cleaners.

I don't have anything against lifted trucks, but they shouldn't be going fast or racing and they should be upgraded on the brakes to accomodate for the more mass in wheels and tires more common these days.
That sucks for your friend though, sorry to hear it. Hope everyone has a speedy recovery.

I agree, they should defiantly sue the truck's driver, and use the bumper height and street racing against the person.
My bro-in-law and sister were driving down a bridge approach, and slowed for a turning car ahead. A girl on her cell phone, came over the top of the bridge, and slammed into his audi. He has a permanent back disability now, that bothers him every once in a while, and my sister got whip-lash. The girl that hit them, received a ticket for her 6th, yes, 6th wreck (she was only 20 years old) and a big ol' lawsuit. Needless to say, It bought my bro-in-law a new car, all hospital bills paid for, and another $20K for disability and time lost working(about 4 months).

It's not for sure that they were racing. It just looks like it.
I went and talked to the guy today. He just sent out of the ER to a normal room. Seems to be doing alright, but a bit lethargic. He says he doesn't remember anything about the accident. Just riding in the car and suddenly waking up in the hospital. He should be fine. He told me how the paramedics ripped up his brand new clothes that he bought that day and how he had to buy new ones. I told him that the truck driver should buy him new ones and then some.

Are you serious?? I'm gonna have to give you a good smack for this one. *shakes head*
Sorry about the family, and I'm glad that their baby wasn't with them. Hope they all heal up nicely.

Here's a pic of the car. The guy is back to work tonight. He has a hard time keeping his balance. He is also taking the guy to the cleaners with it all.

omg, that's crazy... he's lucky to be alive, but it still sucks for him. Hope the other guy had good insurance...

I too don't have a problem with street racing when it's done in an environment where the only people that can get hurt are the ones that put themselves in that situation. On streets where some innocent person can get hurt it definately stupid.
That sucks for your friends and I hope they get better.

The truck was not the problem, it was the idiot behind the wheel.
