oil is at all time high, unemployments up, and the u.s. dollar isnt worth crap!
cnn's best advice is to "hold onto your job".

i feel like i just got kicked in the bag.

Cnn will do anything they can to stir up trouble. The more afraid people are of things the more people will watch the news clinging to their seats.

Eff CNN.

technically...it's not a recession yet.

also...you are listening to CNN? part of the problem is that gas companies will charge whatever we expect the price to be...so you get some douche on there that predicts 4 dollars a gallon...voilla..it's 4 dollars a gallon because we expect it'll go there.

im not saying that's what drives the prices...but it sure dosen't help our case much.

Exactly... It's not a real recession, but the more that people pound on the drum of recession the more likely that it will become one.

Exactly... It's not a real recession, but the more that people pound on the drum of recession the more likely that it will become one.

On a LARGE scale? It isn't major.

"A recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours."

over 150 applications for jobs at my work place last month. Normally we get 15-20.

A lot of places aren't majorly hurting, just places that have dealt with expansion. Obviously people doing construction lately for housing, landscaping, fencing, etc... those sorts of things thrive around here, and they are at a near hault. On top of this, realtors have been at a minimum lately as well... several of my friends were realtors, now they aren't, they're in different industries because they "weren't making a buck easy enough."

Is the ENTIRE economy sucking? No. But whether you want to admit it or not it does affect people in a larger way.

Because some of these areas are hurting so hard it's shifting the focus of a large percentile of those workers into NEW industries. The "low unemployment rate" is now shaken. Businesses used to be hiring, now almost no places are hiring because a large chunk of the work force is now starving for work and looking for it elsewhere.

Imagine for a moment someone tells you that you could have a job that makes great money and everyone is doing it. You go to this job, get a GREAT wage and some good benefits and start making money. A year later you didn't really take a look at the big picture, certain areas are hurting that your job relies on for supply of business and now you are getting next to no work. Slowly but surely, you end up almost out of work, or pretty much out of work, you are forced to look for a new job. Only now you aren't the only one...

As people refocus what they want to do with their live, careers, jobs and the market.... it'll be rocky for a while.

Now the extra point in that is that now if YOU lose your job you're going to be having a pain in the ass time finding a job to hold you off and get back on your feet because you're fighting with a million other applicants who are now looking for work. Now you're in the boat.

The market as a whole lately hasn't looked horrible. However, economy is economy and business swings the dollar. At the same time you as an employee drive the hammer that the business swings that makes that dollar. If you can't swing your mighty hammer, how do you put food on the table? If you catch what I mean.

As Socal so wonderfully put it, there is NO good time to lose a job, really. I can't remember the last time I heard someone go "OH MY GOD I am so glad I lost my job now and not yesterday! Thank got for termination of my employment!"

But because of these areas of "expansion" becoming temporarily halted till the areas "thin out" and become more realistic it's going to take a while for it to happen and in the mean time it affects EVERYONE.

PS:

CNN sucks. CNN has SOME stuff on it that is decent, but the last 2 years it has become a cesspool of pure crap on a lot of things. So does Fox News (it's horribly biased), go watch Bloomberg.

It's going to take a lot for me to lose my job. You have to love the job security you get from the military.

^yeah right...we had 3-4 guys on my ship in the USCG that were airforce..who were forced out because they contracted out the C-130 mechanics or something like that. i guess there were thousands of guys that weren't even allowed to switch jobs, just forced out of the service.

That is kind of nice. This stuff hasn't really affected Jen nor myself. We still buy what we want. We usually don't buy that much stuff though, so it's not like we do much.

Sucks to be those guys. I know they have a deal where you can cross train at the end of your first enlistment. They must have done something wrong.
