Unfortunately until I can do a complete rewiring of my car, I have a small area in which my power wire is within inches of my rca's. It there anything that I can cover either type of wire with to help reduce the interference I get from this?

the only thing i can think of is some type of foam but i dont think tht would do much and/or anything... lemme know when you wanna re-wire it im down for it

You could also plug your RCAs into a ground-loop isolator. I've used them before with success to eliminate a pesky alternator whine I could not get rid of, even with having the power and audio wires separated.
Of course, if your wires are THAT close, there's probably nothing you can do to completely eliminate it, but if your foam doesn't work, try one of these.

Yup, a GLI should help. It won't hurt to wrap a few layers of electrical tape around each individual wire where they are close either.

The power wire is DC with a little high freq. from alternator noise floating on top. Things you could do to minimize noise are: a) put a big honkin' low resistance inductor ahead of where the power wire passes by the line inputs,
b) move the capacitor to a location ahead of this spot
c) mount a distribution block ahead of this location using a few smaller conductors to power the amps and
d) get some braided shield, put it over the power wire and ground it.
In addition, using ground isolators on the line level feed would be a good idea, since it would minimize the effect of alternator noise floating around on everything and adding to the input signal.

The GLI just needs plugged in. Easy, cheap and temporary since he said he'll fix his wires someday. ;)

I used a GLI with some success, but my interference was too great... i went from horrid static to a high-pitched squeal... in the end, a re-routing fixed the whole issue... took about 2 hours to rip the sits out (including the backseat), remove all the carpeting, and move the RCA's down the passenger side

Yeah, it was done about 8 years back. THe only wires I have replaced so far are the RCA's. Once I get the rest it will be a "fun" time. I will keep you informed of when I am ready Dave.

The installer didn't know what he was doing. If I would have seen that crap, I would have immediately returned my car and have them redo it.
