I'm getting frustrated. I was trying to do this for my signature:

But it's too large (KB). How can I make a nice/decent signature without going over the size requirements?

Well at least I'm not the only one having issues. I was getting frustrated trying to figure out how to keep it under 9.8KB.

Jessica, if you e-mail it to me (jenzzx2@aol.com) I'll make it smaller (kb wise)

Is your signature image a .jpg file ?? I had similar problems with a file that was around 16KB. I ended up reducing my sig to 450 by 70 pixels and increasing the compression of the .jpg file until the file size was about 9.6KB.

My suggestion is th crop the picture a bit, scale the image down to reduce pixel count and increase compression a bit to fit under the 9.8KB limit. make sure you keep the original file, because the modified image will lose sme resolution.

Note that you could link to a larger file than an uploaded signature file to get around the limit. I'm not providing this info to encourage this behavior, but expect more than one experienced person to figure this out on their own.

I checked WickedZ's image. While it is 333x100 and it is also 47KB but is linked from another website. I'd guess that since it actually isn't uploaded it is legal, but I'm going to check with CJW and others.

The comment is to let people know CJW, myself and a few others will be checking. Play nice and stay within the rules...

did it for you, jessica.

Jon, since it's linked from my photobucket, I don't think it will affect the storage on the site.

Mine's far beyond the 9.6 limit (91kb), but it's linked from my photobucket as is Nike's.

This is under discussion and willl be clarified shortly. Although linking to large files does not occupy server space, if too many people use large linked sig images it may slow the opening of threads.

I suspect people would be allowed to exceed the 9.8KB limit for linked files if the size is within reason. However i don't have the final say in the matter.

Is there a difference in this new site, than the old one? Everyone had to link their own sigs on the last site. I've had my sig for probably 2 years now.

I don't see how linking them, will slow anything down.

I will update KB limits in a bit.

Small things like this I overlooked when enabling because I was just too busy.

updated. Try again.

Mods, do not put peoples sigs in for them...if it's a problem that needs fixed let me fix it, don't bypass it.
